Topic: Why no asymmetric gameplay on 3DS/DS?

Hey folks, please share your thoughts on this. I've been thinking about asymmetric gameplay recently and was wondering if it's just a nice thing to hype about and promote when releasing a new system or if Nintendo really wants to give us enjoyable large scale experiences using this technique?

What I was wondering is following:
Why no asymmetric gameplay on 3DS or even DS? I mean all it comes down to is having a seperate screen for each player. I could easily imagine this Luigi's Mansion minigame from Nintendoland as a 3DS download on eShop and people gathering in "3DS Lanparties" having a blast. The thing that irks me is that the possibility of this has been here for ages, even since GBA times and I think bringing people together with a 3DS in a room to have a good time is something worth striving for. Make it "you need your own cart" multiplayer and you'd even boost sales considerably if you have strong party titles with asymmetric gameplay. I often enjoy playing Mario Kart 7 locally with my friends or even go online together with them, thinking about something like this Luigis Mansion Ghostgame tickles my entertainment nerves.

So please share your thoughts on this with me, maybe you even have some nice ideas for 3DS 4+ Player multiplayer asymmetric gameplay. Im curious.

I'm just hoping one day in the next decade they simulate ALL home console games on a handheld, the 4DS would be perfect to launch Nintendos next "home console" and handheld on the exact same day, I think every game released so far on ninty consoles could work

It's (mostly) new for home consoles, that's why they're talking so much about it.

That's the obvious, im merely questioning why we don't have it since a long time already on DS/3DS which would make perfect sense and the fact that we're not having it already makes me wonder how far Nintendo itself (and to some degree 3rd parties) will implement it.

I'm pretty sure "asimetric gameplay" games have been on portables for quite some time. (considering you always get a separate screen for every player every time you play with portables).

If I remember correctly there's a minigame in mario party ds that plays just like that luigi's mansion minigame.

I know where you're coming from but I cannot really recall more than maybe 3 games on portables that were "asymmetric" - just having a seperate screen for every player does not make it asymmetric, it's a different task for each player that does and considering this, I cannot really recall that many games.

Actually the only thing that comes to mind was "Savage" on PC, where people could either play ground troops or some kind of commander viewing things from an overhead perspective, setting waypoints and giving attack orders like in an RTS. Loved it and wish for more like it on Wii U / 3DS.
