I tried the demo at Gamestop. Idk if it was because the system was tied down but when I focused the 3D slider correctly, I saw almost no 3D at all. I was horribly unimpressed. The 3D slider acted more as a focus for the view than actual 3D to me. It was similar with Street Fighter too when I tried that demo.
@ Everyone saying the graphics in OoT3D are worse with the 3D on
The way the graphics look with the 3D on is how the game actually is supposed to look. When the 3D is off, the game adds an effect called anti-aliasing (or however the heck you spell it) which smudges the edges of everything to give the appearance of smooth edges.
So in reality, the graphics don't get worse with the 3D turned on. That's how the game is supposed to look. The graphics are actually improved when the 3D is turned off.
For example, Starfox 3D doesn't use anti-alias, so even though you still see the jagged edges, no one complains about it because they haven't seen the improved looks.
Perhaps this is why OoT3D uses anti-alias and Starfox 64 3D doesn't.
Heh, I actually noticed that too.

Keep it PG-13-ish.
Anyone notice water gets an extra effect when 3D is on, as well? Very noticeable in the Lake Hylia area. I don't suppose there's an explanation for that...?
I agree with you OP. I played through the whole game with the 3D at full blast. It just looks incredible. Definitely the best use of 3D this far.
I hope other Nintendo games like Mario & Mario Kart can give me the same visual treat.
Judging from the trailers Mario Kart 7 is looking like it's done a good job. Mario? ...... I think we're going to see people complaining about crosstalk with the piano sections.
Is it cool to hate on 3D these days? Because last year when the 3DS was announced, people were blown away by the fact that the 3DS had glasses-free 3D. Anyway, I'd love a game that is based on the 3D, where the 3D is required. A Zelda game that has 3D puzzles, for example.
Is it cool to act like people can't have legitimate opinions about things we disagree with these days? E3's announcement was technically impressive, and I still think it is impressive for stuff like Face Raiders, but on certain games it just doesn't work well. I just switched it on for Zelda's cutscenes, myself.
Well, it is a first party title. If anyone is going to know how to use the technology the best, it will be Nintendo itself. I'm interested to see what the games will look like by the end of the 3DS lifespan.
It boils down to the 3D didn't add anything to the game; it didn't immerse me any more in it at all, and the ghosting hurt my eyes and holding it in the same stupid position all the time became a chore. I don't like it when playing video games becomes a chore.

In concept yes but having 3D required will never happen. Not all people can see in 3D.
And its not that its cool to hate 3D,but after avatar everyone jumped on using the post 3D conversion method and made it look like crap.

Wow, the negative responses truly amaze me. I suppose we all have different relations to 3D... as a kid, I obsessively collected stereograms ("Magic Eye" etc) and even made some of my own. Focusing in 3D is perfectly natural and comfortable for me.
I keep the slider at 100%, and every time I tried turning it off in Zelda, just for a moment, all the magic was gone; the game suddenly looked just terrible and lifeless by comparison. I agree that Zelda is the best example of 3D on the system to date, mainly due to the great depth (even Star Fox has a much shorter focal distance to the background). Looking around or shooting the bow and arrow with gyroscope + 3D is by far the biggest selling point in the remake for me. Nothing compares to turning your 3DS about like a little portal to a word behind the screen.
The ghosting? If you happen to be in one of those spots where it shows up, just tilt the screen back slightly. It will greatly reduce the ghosting; plus, your eyes brain begins to naturally filter out some of that mild noise once you've played enough.
With Ocarina I've played it so many times without the 3D on N64 that It's no better or worse. It's the same game only slightly prettier. It will always be a great game 3D or not. I imagine the 3D would add more to the games that were made for that feature.

They can make an optional 3D dungeon at the end, in a similar fashion to the colour dungeon in LA DX. They also can make those illusions that you would naturally see in 3D, but would have to turn the camera around if you were playing in 2D, in a similar fashion to SM3DL. I'm really, really interested to see what the Zelda team is going to do with Zelda 3DS.
