Alot of people are saying that the 3ds is to expensive but you get 3ds and the ds libary, 3d , motion controls , touch pad , some games better than wii graphics , eshop , browser , ar games , face raiders ect. What do you guys think is the 3ds worth the money or not I do but I want to know the nintendo life community's views.I felt personally it was overpriced until i played it.
I played it on sunday and preordered it on the same day.

Its probably because its a Nintendo product. People are used to paying less for Nintendo products. This product is actually under priced and probably not going to make them a lot of money on the hardware alone.

Thats a good point as 3d screens can't be cheap.

There are a number of reasons why the 3DS is currently too expensive. For one, it is the most expensive portable console I have ever seen, and being a portable system, it is likely that it will eventually break and need to be replaced. It does not have GBA/GB compatibility, and at the moment the 3DS library is very small and full of remakes/rehashes. Even if the 3D is a nice gimmick, it will likely loose its wow factor after a few days, and some people are unable to even see the 3D effect.

The PSP was the same price when it was first released, although that was probably pretty overpriced, but it doesn't have a 3D screen, so yeah. And about portable systems breaking, none of my portables have ever broken. My DS Phat's hinge broke, but that was from carelessness (I didn't care much about it after I got a DSi, you see). Portable systems break almost always from carelessness. I try to take good care of my things.

It may be a bit overpriced, but i see great things coming for it. If you read the first DS's reviews, and launch line up, you'll find that the DS got okay reviews, and it had a terrible line-up of games. Now, the 3ds has gotten pretty good reviews, and sorta kinda good launch line-up.

$250 is a fair bit of money; especially for a portable console. The Wii was about that much and that was a new and fresh home console. 3-D isn't fresh, but merely a novelty. I can live with my $250 thank you very much.

I'm buying it for $200.00, since my mon is paying $50.00, because I couldn't turn in my bro's DS Lite.

Because the price isn't that far off an iPad. Which does a hell of a lot more than just games.

The market has become used to one of two pricing models - something fairly expensive that does a lot of different things (iPad, iPhone), or something that does one thing very well, but is cheap (Kindle).

3DS is priced like the former, but you won't be checking emails on it, you won't (or at least, shouldn't) be taking it into work meetings, and you can't read books and magazines on it.

I'm not saying the 3DS is bad, because I've been playing it almost daily for a month now - its a great games console. But for the asking price, it's limited.

I was prepared to pay $300 for a 3ds. I think $250 is a very reasonable price.

@WaltzElf I can do most of those things on my dsi you just said 3ds can't do. I use to check my emails all the time browse the web and such. Yes it was limited and not ideal but I'm sure the 3ds store will have a lot more then just games to download this time around. Yes it doesn't have its own wireless network but a lot of places have free Wi-Fi now. I can see us being able to download books and possibly music this time around. I guess will just have to wait and see how serious Nintendo is going to be with its 3ds shop but I'm hoping for a lot more variety this time around!

iPads cost literally twice as much, at least.

Stop complaining and GO PLAY GAMES.

For me, it's over priced for the games now available. If Paper Mario and Super Mario 3DS rival the quality of their home console equivalents, then I'll consider it a bargain.

To me this makes an awful lot more sense than the people who are waiting for a price drop. Do you really think Nintendo's going to cut it down $50 six months from now?

SwerdMurd

@moosa - at least a year...probably closer to 2 if the DS was any indication....anyone remember how long Gameboy SP was $99.99 in the states? Well over 2 years at any rate...but yeah--Nintendo products hold value. That's a fact.

Actually I think the price is fairly reasonable. Price drops are inevitable anyway as this thing is probably gonna sell like crazy.

Yeah, this. I'd be willing to wait for a year or two for a price drop or hardware revision. (3DS XL would be awesome, for example.) Not to mention that even if the price doesn't drop, the library of games and online activity will be better so I'll be getting a more value for my dollar.

The only reason I'd get a 3DS earlier is if enough absolute must-have games appear and I figure it's worth the price to get them straight away.

The problem isn't necessarily that the 3DS isn't worth what it offers. Rather, it seems like a worse deal when compared with many of the other gaming devices out there. Both the Wii and the cheapest Xbox 360 cost significantly less than a 3DS right now. Even the PSP, whose horsepower is about on par with the 3DS, costs half as much. Only the PS3 costs more, and then just slightly. Even the current model iPod Touch costs a bit less. With all these other options, as well as the promise of a new Sony handheld which looks to be about the hottest piece of tech around (and Sony will almost certainly take a loss on the hardware, unlike Nintendo), you have to question whether you really need to pay a whole $250 for the 3DS.

Ultimately, it will come down to software, as those above me have stated. I'm buying it now because I have faith that the quality software will come and provide the value we're looking for. Others who are less hopeful may be better off waiting a while. Except for a certain pre-order bonus, I likely would have waited too.
