I recently bought a 2DS to replace my 3DS XL.
For some people this would make no sense, but for me it really feels like an upgrade.
The smaller screens look much sharper and the device is extremely comfortable to hold.
Before I bought this device I browsed the internet to see if others already did this, but couldn't find any results.
I can't imagine I am the only one, so please share your experience or ask your questions.
Maybe we can help people who are on the fence of this subject, or newcomers who haven't decide which model 3DS they want.

Well, I switched from the 3DS to the 2DS. Way better in every regard for me. Brighter screen, a bit better battery, and the system has way more comfortable controls and ergonomics for my hands.

I never even upgraded from my 3DS to a 3DS XL. As much as I like the bigger screens, games don't look as crisp, plus I've heard things like the speakers are not as good and stuff. I'm content with my regular, good ol' Aqua Blue 3DS. And 2DS, while I don't hate it or anything, it just isn't for me. I would miss the 3D way too much, and not being able to fold is a deal breaker for me. I think it's a great option for people wanting a 2DS though. One of my friends, whom I've been telling to get a 3DS ever since launch day, finally picked up a 2DS, which is great, but like I said I would never want one.

The 2DS certainly isn't for everybody. I hardly ever used the 3D, usually only having it on when I first buy a game to see what it looks like, but it tires my eyes very quickly. The speaker in the 2DS is mono and doesn't sound fantastic but I don't mind playing games with the sound down during my commute. Plus, if I really want sound then I'll plug some headphones in and they sound good.
My friend got one and it was defective out of the box...when he returned it, I urged him to spend the extra money on the Pokemon X/Y 3DS XL. He did and never looked back. IMO the 2DS is really designed for children. Nothing wrong with that.

If they made 2DS XL, I might consider going from the original 3DS to that. But as of now, if I ever get another 3DS it would be an XL. I'm also thinking about buying an American 2DS just for all the games Atlus is holding hostage from us Europeans.

Grats on the upgrade! For me, I can't imagine playing Project X Zone, Fire Emblem:Awakening, Zelda LBW and MK7 without 3D. Some people may consider the 3D a gimmick, but to me it's a great feature.

I thought the 3D was a gimmick, until I found a buggy angle in MH3U that made the grass look to be so close in 3D that my eyes hurt instantly and I thought to myself "the 3D is real"(not joking)

I use to have a DSi XL ,and i thought i would end up getting a 3DS XL ,but i never liked the 3D effect when i played the store demos. When they announced the cheaper 2DS i figured that was more my style.
Now i finally got a 2DS for my birthday this month ,and i like this design better than the standard DS design. I never liked how the hinge factor ever since my ds lite's hinge cracked ,and later completely broke.
To me 2DS is alot more comfortable ,and almost feels like an updated version of the original Gameboy design (yes i'm old enough to have had owned the original green/black Gameboy). I like the button layout better ,and the larger shoulder buttons. The only way i'd change from my 2DS would be if they made an XL version ,or a version with a second circle pad.
Current Switch Games: Super Mario Odyssey, Legend of Zelda BoTW, Mario Kart 8, Splatoon 2, Resident Evil Revelations Collection, Doom, Skyrim, Rogue Trooper, Volgarr the Viking, Blaster Master Zero, Elliot Quest, and Rive
i honestly thought the 2ds was a joke when i first heard about it. i was so excited for the first 3ds, i knew it would be amazing to play games in 3d and it was. it seems to me like a lot of people will think that the 2ds existing is basically nintendo admitting that the 3d was a gimmick.
i also find it funny that they finally made a version of the 3ds that doesn't have the hinge wobble problem, which is a pain when trying to play in 3d, and then the thing doesnt even have 3d. if they made a 2ds that could still fold and had 3d i might consider it lol
I feel bad that my mother and step dad put down money for the original 3DS as a gift back in March 2011, months before I got employed, because of just how much better the Nintendo 2DS is. I find it overall more comfortable and better designed, and I would really love to just move everything to my 2DS, but I've decided to keep Colors! 3D and that experience on my original 3DS that way it will actually get attention. Game-wise though, it has pretty much been all via the 2DS since I got the system. Haven't missed the 3D at all, as I recall it emphasizing the dust my top screen had been collecting so it ended up offering less impressive visuals than with the feature off. With the screen being a dust magnet, it would've been a high maintenance system to keep that continually clean.
