I know people are talking about how "NINTENDO WON E3!!!!!11!!!!1" but they really seemed to have dropped the ball with the 3DS. Only a handful of new games were announced, and only one of them was their own game. While project STEAM sounds interesting, it isn't nearly enough Nintendo.
My SD Card with the game on it is just as physical as your cartridge with the game on it.
I love Nintendo, that's why I criticize them so harshly.

The thing is, this makes sense. The 3DS is doing just fine as is. Its the Wii U that needs fire lit under its ass, and that's what this E3 did.
It kind of sucks for us that are primarily 3DS users, but... last year/this year have been pretty good to us. Lets give Nintendo a break here.
Nintendo was smart to focus on the Wii U with a little 3DS stuff on the side. I know many people here will agree with me because as I recall, most people here were saying that Nintendo needs to solely focus on the U in game announcements/Directs/E3 etc. etc. Afterall, 3DS is getting two blockbusters in Smash Bros.and the Pokemon remakes which come out in back-to-back months. There's also the new FF game and of course S.T.E.A.M to look forward to as well.
The problem is all of the routine franchises are now out on the 3DS, the only ones that haven't popped up are Warioware, Golden Sun, Metroid and Advance Wars which aren't guaranted games anyway.

Except by the time the Wii U is fine, the 3DS will have had game droughts if this continues. It's like trying to feed a starving child, and then forgetting about the decently well fed one for a week. By the time the starving one is healthy again the other one will be starving again. I'm starting to see this cycle that started a few years ago of one gets a whole lot of support and the other gets a drought, then the other one gets a whole lot of support and the other gets a drought.

on a serious note, all those games were already known so there was no brand new announcement.
I'm more than happy with those but something else, something still unknown to the public, would/will be great
Not really. There was also Fantasy Life that wasn't announced previously for the West.
I think there are a lot of 3DS games coming, topping it all with S.T.E.A.M.

I said that before knowing about S.T.E.A.M.(plus Fantasy Life took so long that I almost lost all interest)
now I'm hyped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
goodbyes are a sad part of life but for every end there's a new beggining so one must never stop looking forward to the next dawn

Meh, 3DS will probably be front and center in the next major multi-game ND. Besides the handheld has been in the spotlight since 2011. Time to put primary efforts on Wii U.

Is Golden Sun really established enough such that we can expect further entries? That's not my reading of the situation at all. I haven't played any of them fully but I'd kinda seen it as something they might've finished with?
It could be worse people, it could be the Vita. As far as I can tell, the Vita has been essentially left out to pasture by Sony. They realised quite early on that the whole business model for putting AAA games on it didn't really work out. So now it's just the indie handheld machine.
I totally called this. I think the reason why 3DS got the shaft this year was because the Wii U demanded more focus. The 3DS already has a good lineup and is selling reasonably well, it doesn't really need much more right now. Sure, that does cause a problem with momentum, but from the looks of things, Nintendo doesn't seem to have the luxury of providing decent support for both consoles considering how long development is. So they decided to focus more on improving the Wii U's lineup which had less games and is less popular right now to improve sales.
There was a new Final Fantasy game announced in Famitsu - I think that it will be worth taking note of. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if they had a few Directs incoming with some smaller games or a big holiday title. They can also announce stuff at other game shows.
Another thing: Wii U has been the primary platform at E3 for Nintendo since 2012. However the 3DS spotlights the majority of the Nintendo Directs. So perhaps the next ND will mainly focus on the handheld.
