I play the Vita ones a bit more though. Mostly because those ones work.
The 3DS AR games don't work for you?
Not in anything but ultra awesome daylight.
What's the lighting conditions in your room? Do you have an overhead light?
It's a fairly dark apartment at night. But light enough for the Vita's AR to work. During the day the lighting is fine. But I'm usually doing things like working, during the day.
Now I understand. I have a bright room, so I'd have no problem. Have you tried using a flashlight or moving a lamp nearby?
For an AR game that's worth about five minutes play?
Too much effort. When AR doesn't require doing more, to end up with a game that is less than a Mario Party minigame, then I'll start to believe AR is worth adding to consoles.
Ironically, earlier today The fishing is still pretty fun. Especially with that giant AR card! I really like the AR games on 3DS and really hope Nintendo makes more available through the eShop!

How much effort is a freakin' flashlight? I don't mean holding it the entire time. Just place it so the light goes accross the card. It just needs enough light to reflect off it, after all. But whatever. If you're not interested, you're not interested, and that's fine by me. I just thought they were really cool and didn't want to you to miss out just because you didn't have enough light.
Last time I touched the AR cards? Let's see... I got my 3DS... opened it and pulled out the cards... played with them for like 5sec and never touched them again
Same thing goes with all the crappy preinstalled software that comes on the 3DS, I don't need useless gimmicky crap to fill my time since there are no good 3DS games, I'll just play one of my many other consoles u__u
Don't forget Bravely Default Makes it a main part of the game! Hey Choco, make sure you at least try that flashlight idea to see if it works, I know you'd want to play that BD:FF game.

Let's compare.
Normal game: Sit down, turn it on. Play. Given the games I play, it's likely to be a game with 50+ hours content, and I can relax in bed, or sit outside, or play it anywhere really.
AR game: Sit down, mess with lighting (with the 3DS' AR, anyway), mess with AR cards. Wait for the console to talk to the AR cards. Everything's now set up. Play 5 minute minigame, cramped over the card and making sure I have enough room to move around it as necessary.
Nope, sorry, not good enough. In fact, AR irritates me so much I will very seriously consider not bothering with Bravery Default if it's a necessary component of the game.
They're tech demos, and I hope the gaming industry doesn't fall into the trap of thinking they're more than that.
i was done with the AR cards about five minutes after giving them a shot. at the moment, they're more a novelty than anything i'm interested in wasting my time with, lol :3

Well, different gamers like different expiriences. To each his own!
@ChocoGoldfish:I personally like AR, for all of the reasons you don't! The tangibility of everything makes it so much more immersive. Granted, the AR games are little more than a teaser; but I'm excited for some retail AR games.
tbh, i`ve used them once when i bought my 3DS, but i just can`t be bothered with them anymore. also, i`m worried about bending the cards, which would probably ruin them. i would have thought that nintendo would have made more cards for purchase via club nintendo, or maybe an extra card in the same games that have club nintendo points in them. i think that if nintendo made more cards available they would have to patch the AR card game to recognize the new cards.

RE: The Mercenaries
Honestly, I had such hilariously low expectations for AR Cards that I can say they FAR exceeded them, and some of the minigames were fun for a few minutes. AND I DESTROYED THE WORLD MUWAHAHAHAHA. That was...dark.
I'm not one to call something just a gimmick, but AR Cards is basically just that and even compared to 3D (which has only been used for gameplay in one game so far) has no value, at least right now, at least until someone decides to turn an entire card game into AR Cards (Yugioh needs to do this like RIGHT NOW btw)
