Hey everybody, I'm a huge fan of Action RPG's and roleplaying games in general, but I've never tried Monster Hunter on any platform before even on Wii, now that I wanna play MH on 3DS I wanna know which game is best to buy first, knowing that I don't know anything about this Capcom title.
.
.
And thank you so much guys, you're so helpful. I find this platform so friendly and willing to offer a lot of helpful information for me about Nintendo gaming and I hope to be helpful to others too in the future.

You should go with the last one Monster Hunter Stories. I bought the JPN Amiibo for it and they look great.

I heard it's more of an RPG than an action game. I would skip on it for now until I'm done with Xenoblade Chronicles 3D. Although, thank you so much for the suggestion.

There's three Monster Hunter games on the 3DS:

Monster Hunter Tri
This one's really cheap but it's not newbie friendly and there are water levels which were contraversial. Some people liked them but many others really didn't.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate
Had the most "story". Had some half-decent tutorials and added the Insect Glaive and Charge Blade weapons. This game has G-Rank (in addition to Low and High Ranks) so it has some pretty extensive end-game. Some people found the Apex and Frenzy Virus very annoying to fight.

This is the first MH game I've played, and the one I've played the most. I've only clocked a few hours on the other two.

Monster Hunter Generations
Is a sort of "best of" Monster Hunter games, revisiting regions from old games, brought in customizable tweaks for the movesets for all the weapons, as well as some quality of life improvements and included the weird prowler class. It's missing a G-Rank, although some people say the Variant monsters add some freshness to the end game

That's a spinoff game. It's nothing like any of the other Monster Hunter games. It's like what Pokemon Ranger is to Pokemon

I'm interested in the answer, too, as I saw that all the MH3DS games are available pretty cheap last time I went to Gamestop - but you might get better answers in the 3DS forum.

4 if you like monster variety and difficulty.

Generations if you like flashy moves or playing as a cat.

Let me move this to the 3DS forum.

Look at it like this, if your getting into the series for the first time, your going to want to find someone to do a co-op session with you until you get the ropes and get better equipment to where you can do it by yourself. Usually I recommend the latest one, but because the newest one is more of a spin-off, go with the one before the newest one. You're more than likely to find someone playing the one before the newest one. Or you can go farther back in the series on the 3DS and hope to God someone will help you there. Or even better, be willing to go back even farther in the series itself, break the 3DS barrier, and explore it on a console or another handheld (I did this on the PSP, and it's harder to find people playing it cause it's like no one has the PSP that came before the Vita.)

4 Ultimate was the best of the 3DS games in my opinion.
