Not in a million years. Unless Nintendo somehow make their own smart phones with their own OS, I don't see how this is happening.

I don't know how it might be but I bet it'll have a huge foldable touchscreen to keep compatibility with the "DS line" while making advances all by itself.

The single screen thing would work, and it wouldn't have to sacrifice backwards compatibility. Just implement that "1DS" idea (where you can switch between lower and upper screen with the push of a button or turn the single screen into the lower/upper and your TV into the upper/lower).
Most 3DS games don't make extensive use of the lower screen, anyway. They're mostly used for maps and stuff.

And yeah, I think the possibility of ditching the dual screen exists...kids are dumb.

Maybe there will be an attachment where you can connect a touch screen to the bottom, and in that device is a 3DS cart. slot! Similar to the Game boy player for the Gamecube, and of course there wont be 3D graphics though.

Switching between virtual screens would be cumbersome as hell. Not to mention the possibility of lagging during switching.

Almost Wii-like graphics is what the 3DS can deliver as of now if properly programmed. Have you played Resident Evil Revelations? I expect the 4DS to have at least the horsepower of the Vita. And it will be called 4DS and feature a built-in DeLorean for time travel.

No, it has Gamecube like graphics. Look at a compare video/fourm.

but I heard it has some shaders and stuff that not even the Wii had.

That's just more modern tech. The Wii is a good deal more powerful.

yes but it means the 3DS only loses in number of polygons and stuf related to power, in all else it is superior.
and everyone saying that the next needs to be HDS that's overkill for such a small screen.

Fine whatever. It would have almost Wii U like graphics. Happy?

now all my fooling around worked I am that previous post of mine was so ridiculous I didn't even belive I did it!
but seriously it IS GC level but most of the Wii games are so close to GC in graphics that it is kinda hard to say what the 3DS is closer to on that small screen.

For one thing, I can't think of a single game that doesn't make extensive use of the second screen. For another, switching between two displays on a single display sounds cumbersome and unwieldy.

What if Nintendo made a device that's a combination of a smartphone and a gaming platform? For starters, it can have graphics that are on par with the Wii U. Second, I think Nintendo should keep the second screen. I think it makes things easier. Third, it should still be a gaming platform with a card slot so that it can accept retail games. (I don't want Nintendo to go down the Apple/Android route. That's just not Nintendo's specialty.) Fourth, it should have an application where you can contact friends by calling them or texting them using Nintendo Network IDs. It could be almost like what Nintendo did with the Wii U by adding Wii U Chat, which was almost like Skype. Fifth, Nintendo should have an eShop with games as affordable as the ones on Apple's App Store and the Google Play Store (usually between 99 cents and $2.99). Although, the retail games should be full-priced. The eShop should have a robust catalog of games, and Nintendo should allow the Wii U's VC catalog to be played on the next handheld and vice versa, thus allowing cross-purchases. Fifth, I want Nintendo to be themselves. I don't want Nintendo to change who they are just to impress the modern generation. I want Nintendo to try new things, but I want Nintendo to continue to deliver the Nintendo Experience with titles that are memorable and appeal to their usual crowds and new crowds as well.

Recently I've been playing Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD, Link's Awakening, and Luigi's Mansion 3. Also replaying Rayman Legends and trying to get better at Smash Ultimate
