I'm going for Game Boy 2. "Back to the basics." With a really cool kind of shortened clamshell design and a modern D-pad and A, B, START and SELECT buttons. What do you guys think?

The 3DS is part of the DS line, it has DS in it. Gameboy Advance was part of the Gameboy line.

Well, I don't see any reason why they'd abandon the dual screen idea any time soon, it works so well.

You know I'm pretty sure that the DS line is ending...Gameboy 1, Gameboy color 2, Gameboy advance 3...DS 1, DSi 2, 3DS 3.

Don't hedge your bet on patterns, it almost never works with Nintendo. Besides, I only consider the DSi an upgrade to the DS, not a standalone device. The GBC could play games that the GB couldn't. The GBA plays games the GBC couldn't. The DSi and the DS play the same exact things. The only things that separates the two is online functionality. Under that logic, we still have one more DS product coming, but again, patterns hardly work.

You don't have proof with that. There's only been two handheld lines...

I'm not just talking about handhelds. I'm talking about Nintendo in general. Besides, a move to a single screen would destroy a huge selling point that Nintendo has been banking on: backwards compatibility. Nintendo has championed backwards compatibility since the Gameboy Color.

I find it extremely unlikely that Nintendo would ditch the dual screen model.

You don't have any proof to the contrary either

I'm going to be honest. I did not intend to be mean. I know it's very difficult to understand tone of voice through the internet, but I really did not want to lash out at anyone. I just wanted to make a point.

Nintendo has usually put innovation at the forefront. Each new system isn't just an upgrade in specs, but brings something entirely new to the fold. I have no idea where they will go next in terms of innovation, but if I had to guess some features, I think it would look something like:

  • Improved 3D function
  • 480p or 540p display (720p or 1080p would be overkill, expensive, and a hassle to develop for)
  • Two circle pads (the Circle Pad Pro says they've at least considered this)
  • 3G capability (by the time the successor is out, 4G should be common enough that 3G is an affordable alternative for Nintendo)
  • Ability to sync up with the next home console to either play console games on the handheld (scaled down) or to use the handheld as a console controller, much like the PS4 and Vita cross play

Why would they take a few steps back in design?

Maybe there will be no new thing. Like the DS' "Touching is good." or the DSi's "What will you and I do today?" and since Nintendo keeps making remakes and rehashes of things maybe they will go "Back to the basics." A slogan I believe.

And it will probably have almost Wii-like graphics, and like CaviarMeths said it will probably have 540p and 3G. Don't expect everything from me guys, this is just an idea... Peace.

Going back to basics in software and hardware are different though. Why should every game have to go back to basics because of the hardware?

How about the TS? lol jk.

I am guessing when the DS line is replaced the Home System and Portable system will become 1 system. Like that totally fake leak a while ago but done correctly

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

How can you guys not figured this out already? Nintendo has been secretly working with Stephen Hawking on a new handheld model. It's called the 4WD(World Dimension), it enables you to travel through the 4th dimension. Time.

The 4WD (World Dimensions) has no screens and buttons, it will only have a body consist of the console, cartridge slot and battery. When you activate the 4WD, the console will transfer your consciousness into the world line and the computing system will transfer you to a particular line depending on the game. For example if you are playing Super Mario 4D, it will transfer you to a world line where only this game is accessible. You will be able to "play" the game with your consciousness. Ever watched Sword Art Online? It's basically the same principle.

However this is still in development and multiple testers have already went to the world line 1.130209 (Nintendo's testing world line) and unable to come back. I'm sure when the time the 4WD is ready to the public, these bugs would be solved we will not need to worry about not coming back from the game.

TL;DR? Good for you.

Problem is they support the touchscreen when it makes the game worse. It is ok for a map but swapping items should be with button combo's it is much better once you have the hang of it.
