Hey guys I've just finished exams, am bored and was wondering how big the new circle pad pro would be for the 3DS XL. As such I've created the following mock image and wondered what you guys think?
Well, first and foremost, congratulations on finishing your exams. I think that mockup's pretty spot-on. Nintendo doesn't need to change the design much, just make it bigger and move a few slots about.
Not bad. Personally don't see the need for a second slide pad in regards to games I'm playing and will get. MAYBE Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon. And Smash Bros.
lol — for a minute there, i thought someone would've photoshopped a game gear housing around a 3DSXL :3

Why not just add that circle pad on the console Nintendo?
The only reason I can think of is alienating existing users. Should a second circle pad be included it would 'encourage' developers to make games which require two circle pads. This would, in effect, mean that new games wouldn't work without the second circle pad, forcing early adopters to have to either buy the add on or upgrade. Either way I think Nintendo believe they would feel a backlash from loyal fans
That's not the only reasons.. Left handed users would benefit from every game. also, if the console has a right circle pad built in, then the developers would make games to utilize it.
Guys... They can't make a Circle Pad Pro for this because the stylus is being moved back to the right. Otherwise though it's a very good mockup.
Couldn't Nintendo, oh I don't know, put a little place for the stylus on the Circle Pad Pro? Even better yet, include it with a stylus so it doesn't even have to be moved.

Because when its used in only about 5 games, it becomes a bit expensive and an unnecessary addition.
WOAH, NINJA'D.
There's only 5 games that support it because it isn't an included part of the hardware. Games that would utilize it well, like first person shooters, aren't being made for it because publishers don't think enough people will buy a circle pad pro to justify making a game that utilizes it. They'd aliente too many consumers to make it worth it. By doing this, only a few games utilize it, so no one buys it, contributing to publishers believing that no one will buy it. It's an endless cycle.
Nintendo could have stopped this cycle by integrating the second circle pad into the new 3DS. This way, a large enough consumer base would be around to justify putting games onto the system that utilize it. However, all Nintendo has done is further enforce this cycle by not putting the circle pad onto it.

We'll just have to wait until Nintendo's next handheld system for two circle pads on the system. Which I'm sure will have all the same functionality as the Wii U gamepad.
That's kinda how it might look like. The original 3DS was kinda small for having a CPP built-in, but the XL? Come on, that's stupid. There's more room below the ABXY buttons, and probably plenty of room in the back for the ZL/ZR buttons to go further inward than the L/R buttons (in similar vein to the original Classic Controller for Wii). Why they didn't is beyond me. Also, the top half reminded me of a kids toy, being so generic looking. I can see it not being a sleek, glossed-up system, but the 3D depth slider and the cushions for closing the top half could've looked less plastic-like. While changing the designs for the cushions is a good decision (no circle [pad] marks), they don't have to look so stupid. And despite the 4 squares in the corners of the screen not looking dumb, what purpose do they serve? Fixing these problems seems too late for Nintendo, so close to release. The CPP for the XL is going to be another fix, but this time it was way more predictable and avoidable. Anyways, good mock-up. If you've got more free time, perhaps you could do a mock up of the XL done right? I don't have photoshop, etc.

Looks great to me, a 2nd stick should have been on the original 3DS from the start never mind needing a extra peripheral like the CCP but that's another story in itself.
