Does the 3DS have a hard time with 3rd party support?

They use to have third-party support.

And they don't now? I didn't even notice. I know the Wii U was hurting for 3rd Party support but not the 3DS.

The 3DS is not really hurting for third-party support, it's getting several major third-party games over the next year. What helps the 3DS is that many Japanese developers shifted their focus to handhelds last generation, and the 3DS' popularity attracts support from them.

I don't really see why people think the 3DS has poor third-party support. Some of the system's biggest and most popular games this year have been third-party titles.

Nintendo handhelds have never had trouble getting third-party support. Its their consoles that struggle in that regard.

Its because for many, "3rd-party" equals AAA. Its the same for the "has no games" argument. A lot of their support comes in the form of somewhat obscure or niche series like Ace Attorney, Monster Hunter, or Harvest Moon that many have never heard of, or even experimental games like TWEWY or Lost in Blue. Compared to the DS though its kinda lacking, or more accurately not everything is localized. Its got plenty of support though, with many of the games having a lot of meat to 'em. I'm still working my way through MH3U and RF4, and I've had both since launch.

Anything from bigger western companies is a fruitless endeavor to me, they're better off working with the smaller companies that would appreciate having a big company like Nintendo supporting them. Just about every other fellow Japanese company has been pretty willing to collaborate, even if they're not getting 'major' releases from them, and have a strong following of their own. That right there is worth pursuing, they just need to keep at it. Maybe step in and help market/localize games fans have been asking for * cough * DQ remakes * cough *.

Who hasn't heard of these games? They aren't Pokemon or Mario or something, but they're certainly not obscure. People throw out "obscure" and "niche" out like candy, nowadays...

People throw out candy? Those fiends!

Ya, if people seriously think those games are niche and obscure titles, then that might be the problem, but I kind of doubt it. I will always be surprised that somehow a 3DS CoD hasn't happened yet, or even anything, really. There hasn't been a new Tony Hawk in years, and EA could have definately made a Dead Space for 3DS. I think 3rd parties might be a bit tied up with smartphone ports and mini games, for the time being.

Even Nintendo getting SNES VC running on 3DS might get SE to release FF games, seeing as that's what they are doing on mobile devices. Or what about a Tomb Raider semi sequel type deal?

I just think it's becoming a bit much for 3rd parties to do all this stuff at once.

The audience isn't there for a 3DS version of Call of Duty. Everyone who wants it will buy it on one of the HD consoles or PC.

It's not a mystery.

Yeah, the whole point of Call of Duty is to deliver a realistic and cinematic experience. You can't do that on the 3DS. There are plenty of reasons to buy a 3DS and plenty of IPs that are ideal for it, but CoD isn't one of them.

I said "somewhat" and given their definitions both fit just fine. A lot of people don't know what they are, and sales-wise besides Monster Hunter barley broke 1mil, at best they're up there with Fire Emblem, after Awakening that is. For MH a big part of that is due to Japan. As far as the west is concerned they don't do much better than something like the Tales of series, which is definitely considered niche.

I don't know but most people buy a nintendo system to play nintendo games, so I guess nintendo doesn't really need much third party support, but like others said collaborations are their only hope.

Well, they made a ton of CoD games for DS and the PS Vita one, so it's not like wondering where a portable CoD game would be all out of the blue.

Yeah, I think it's gone forever, which MIGHT be a good thing. I kinda like what Nintendo is doing now with the collaborations, with SSB and Hyrule Warriors (I think that game looks like total garbage, but I'm just saying the idea). That and moneyhatting exclusives like Devil's Third, and Bayo 2, are all they need to do...it's just that it's really a Nintendo only machine, now.

And, honestly, that's all that matters.

Yeah, less games to play is always a good thing.

That can be rephrased as only people who are willing to buy a console just to play nintendo games are willing to buy a Wii U... the number of those people is not enough to support the console
