I seriously don't know. I really like the face plates but I also have big hands. The XL fits in my pocket but the regular one just fits in my pocket way better and it lets me sit down without bothering me and I can keep it in my pocket when wearing tighter pants. The other thing I'm mostly worried about is that NoA won't really support the face plates. Just knowing how NoA is, I feel like they'll give us a few that'll be out in the beginning but they probably won't put out more that may become available later on and I have no idea how to import stuff cuz I'm stupid that way. Any suggestions guys?

I have a 3DS & 3DS Xl right now, I'd never downgrade to a normal 3DS after going XL. It's just so much nicer to have that big screen and a more comfortable grip.
I'll definitely be going New 3DS XL. It just sucks that the swappable covers aren't available for that version.

@mamp If you can't find the plates in stores, I'm sure they'll be on eBay so you can easily get them from Japan if necessary. If your hands weren't too big for the OG, the new 3DS will be a smidge bigger, so it should be sufficient and more portable than the XL.

Thanks for the reassurance. I'm still kinda thinking it over though XD

Depends. If the audio quality of the New XL is superior to the current XL model, I'll probably go with that. If the sound quality is superior on the smaller version, I'll have to see if the slightly increased screen size is tolerable enough for me. I just can't go back to those tiny screens.
Also depends on whether there is decent exclusive software support for it. I'm not buying a 150+ dollar machine just to get an analog nub for Monster Hunter. Either that or release more software that benefits from having the nub.
Another thing that would be huge for me would be improving the quality of the Mic. The Mics on the 3DS and XL have been abominable. They don't even work half of the time.
2DS for now, as I want to play Fire Emblem now, and can hand it down to the kids next year when the new ones come out. When the "New" 3DS come out, well, its going to be hard deciding between picking up a Luigi faceplate & 3DS, or waiting and seeing if there is a special edition XL released with Project S.T.E.A.M.
The OG 3DS was the lite. It had the dot pitch of the Game Boy Micro. If they made the 3DS any smaller, you'd need a magnifying glass to see the screen, and it would be awkward to hold in your hands.

It's already awkward to hold in my hands because it's too effing big. And magnifying glass? Seriously? The screens are way bigger than the one on my iPod touch, and I can assure you I have no problem reading on that thing. The machine could stand to lose at least a quarter inch in all directions, IMO. At the very least it needs to be lighter. It's seriously heavier than the DS phat with both slots used.
They mean a smaller version. Not the original model.
Who is this referring to?
Iphys, with the "magnifying glass" thing.
Okay, I thought you thought I didn't know that they were talking about a smaller version of the original 3DS? Because I totally did, and I'm serious when I say that the original 3DS is heavier than the DS Phat (which was the heaviest handheld I've ever used until the 3DS) and it could use some less size.
