If I cave, I'll go with the New 3DS XL simply because I've never owned a XL version of a Nintendo handheld. I want them to do a New 2DS though. I'm a bit less excited in this system's announcements because of their decision not to make that model.

XL but I'm not sure when I'll get the system as my current 3DS is way too small so I may just get an XL in September and delay purchase of new XL until late 2015/early 2016.
I think the 2DS is kinda dying off, it' was never released in Japan, sales have been good but not great, and Nintendo is now, presumably, selling left over stock with the Wii U in that new bundle.

I want to see the weight, check the buttons, see if the bigger screen looks okay (especially with the older 3DS games), see how much they cost, how well they hold up,,,basically I'm gonna wait a year or so. Normally I'd just trust Nintendo to make a good pruduct, but then again, I trusted Nintendo to not do a marginal upgrade, and here we are.
I really like the regular size because of the switchable templates / covers and there's a Rosalina themed one, but because I'm an adult and I have slightly bigger hands, a bigger 3DS would fit comfortably in them. The bigger screen it a huge plus since it's difficult to see your fighters in Smash Bros, even with the outline and border box.
I'd also want a MUGEN battery pack made for it too.

Look at it as if it's the DSI iteration of the 3DS line, breathes about two years into a system that's kinda starting to show its age. Keeps it going strong till late 2016 or 2017, when a real replacement comes along.
Though the regular sized one is very very cool, I think I'll buy the XL, since I've almost bought a "normal" XL before I saw the New models. Actually I think I want to see them myself first, and then I'll decide which version I'll buy, because both are really cool and have their reasons to be bought.
I usually like the XL versions more, but the exchangeable plates and portability is getting to me. So on one hand, I want the bigger screens, but portability is always so nice, and the plates are the icing. I'm probably won't get one right away, anyway. I got the XL on launch and it feels like I just got it not too long ago.

Well, I do have an XL, but I'm still thinking about getting the normal New 3DS. The XL fits in most of my pockets just fine, so portability isn't a real problem for me, but I wouldn't mind downsizing a little. Plus, the normal one has those awesome face plates (and hopefully there will be some website that lets us create our own) and the colored buttons. (And then I think, "Am I really considering a system just because it has colored buttons?!?!) So yeah, right now I'm leaning more toward the smaller model, but I would like to actually have them in my hands before making a decision.
I'll buy both, but I'll probably main the regular because it will fit my little hands better, and the screen is at least slightly bigger than the OG. If I had normal-sized hands, I'd totally use the XL for the bigger screens, but it just gives me too much hand strain when I have to hold the shoulder buttons down on the XL and it's so hard to get my pinkies around the bottom for leverage. Being able to get new faceplates to update the look is pretty sweet too.
