Topic: What are the chances of a 3DS XL price cut this year?

It's possible, but I wouldn't hold my breath. I think the 2DS was Nintendo's answer to offering a lower price.

But you don't necessarily need an "official" price cut to buy cheaper. There's deals all over the place for the 3DS. Heck, I've seen some as low as $150 for an XL. The Mario & Luigi Dream Team bundle was like $180 when it came out, and included a $40 game. I'd just shop around- Newegg, Amazon, Best Buy, Toys R Us, Walmart, Target, etc. Look for the cheapest price and/or the best deal, and roll with it.

The most I would expect this year is a bundle. Perhaps a bundle with Pokemon Alpha Sapphire/Omega Ruby, perhaps a Smash Bros 3D bundle, or perhaps a bundle with an as-of-yet unannounced holiday title. I could be wrong of course, but that's my prediction. I don't foresee another price cut until fall 2015. I think they might drop the price down to $179.99 at that time. Not sure anyone's gonna want to wait that long just to save $20. But that's all it would be, if they do drop it. It's not going to be some significant reduction. They're too close to cost already.

Are you not expecting a new hardware revision then (Like the DS Lite or DSi) ?

When it happens depending on whether they remove the DS backwards compatibility or not depends whether the original 3DS XL's will hold their value or not.

Judging by what Nintendo has done previously (I have just looked at what has happened across all handhelds.) there is some kind of an update every two years for each product. (Meaning the 3DS XL should have one by August).

I wonder what kind of revision the 3DS could get. I think having another budget version with the clamshell design would be great. All the comfort and appeal of a nice clamshell design without the 3D and (Admittedly child's toy looking) shape of the regular 2DS

Looking at the release dates the two year period from the 3DS being released ended with the 2DS.

Have a look yourself it is like clockwork. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Nintendo_portable_...

The 3DS runs DS games in the same card slot through emulation, so...

They should announce and advertise an across the board $30 cut at E3 - 2DS $99. 3DS $139, 3DS XL $169. 3DS hasn't had a cut since the big one at launch 3 years ago, XL has NEVER had a cut in 2 years - almost unheard of in the tech/videogame world, and 2DS should have been $99 to start with, it dropped the 3D effect, stereo sound, and the clamshell design, leaving it basically as a $99 kids toy. People are so used to phones and tablets being remade every year by the likes of Apple, Amazon and Samsung they just aren't going to buy a 3 year old product at a 2 or 3 year old price. All the people who are going to buy at those prices already have. Big banner - "$30 price cut across the entire 3DS Family line". Go big or go home.

SSB is coming, they should sell as many now as they can. Drop all the prices $30 now and raise them another $20 for the SSB bundles - $119, $159, $189 - which would still be a $20 discount over what I'm sure will be a $40 game and still $10 cheaper than they are now. Crush. The. Vita.

I bought one from my local HMV on Monday £99. Couldn't believe my luck, so if you're in England check out HMV

I would guess that all 3DS models will have a price cut, early into next year, but it's just a guess. A 2DS XL is the only new model I'd think could happen, as well.

I think 3DS and 3DS XL are already as slim as they are going to get. 3DS was basically already as small as a DS Lite, and I figure that was a big improvement from the original DS that they just kept as their standard.

My DSi XL is not that well built either. I don't want a loose hinge. Doesn't seem very hard wearing either (Only had it a few months).

You bought an XL for 99? I'm holding out for a revision but I'ld buy one for $99. I'm not getting a 2DS at any price though.

Even just making it slightly better (i.e build quality and the 2DS Circle Pad) would mean I would get another. They will never give up the extra money.

I understand. If a new and improved version came out, I'd probably buy it, too, but I don't really see how they'd improve anything by much and be able to ask for more money. If this version replaced the originals, kind of like what happened to the phat DS when the DS Lite came out, and they asked the same price, then maybe, but that sort of improvement wouldn't be able to be sold next for anything more and along side the older models, if you ask me.

The disappearing original 3DS (local markets, advertising on Nintendo site, disappearance in commercials, etc) could be a sign of a revision coming up to offer a lighter-weight/smaller alternative with 3D over the current 3DSXL. The 3DSXL is a juggernaut in sales, I don't think Nintendo will revise it anytime soon.

I don't see a price cut coming, keep an eye out for sales if you want it cheaper

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

You can expect a bundle, but a price cut is definitely not going to happen.

We could but not this year. Doesn't really need one ATM. I'd like a 3DS lite that's basically a remake of the original 3DS that fixes the design flaws and stuff.
