Title says it all. Slim to none? Fairly likely?

Slim. It'll do well enough when it's bundled with SSB3D they won't need a direct price drop.

everything's good and it'll be that way forever!

It's selling fantastically at its current price. Nintendo has no reason to cut its price.

3DS XL - Lite or something similar will happen at some point. (Hopefully with the 2DS Circle Pad which is so smooth).

the ideal I think would be a 2DS XL that is basically a 3DS XL except without 3D (IE has the clamshell form factor unlike regular 2DS) priced at $169.00

They are bound to remove the DS backwards compatibility at some point (Which will suit me fine as I have a DSi XL now).

They often go on sale for $149 at some retailer every couple months or so. I bought mine last December for that price, and have seen them on sale again several more times since then.

Bundles and sales perhaps but an actual price drop i see as woefully unlikely considering it's competitor is getting trounced in sales and the 3DS has some major releases incoming, short of a MAJOR dip in 3DS sales i don't see the justification for it from a business perspective. Especially since Nintendo is still eating the cost on the Wii-U price drop and not making it back on software on that platform...gotta make that money from somewhere and right now that's the 3DS for them hands down.

Very small and unlikely. You are more likely to see a few bundles and a new model announced.

Four more months until Bayonetta 2.

Why would they do that? Isn't it software compatibility now?

Why? It uses the same spot as a 3DS game card, unlike the DS, and it's software emulated, isn't it?

They more then likely will have some killer deals and some bundles this holiday season but a permanent price drop, very unlikely. The 3DS is selling fairly well as opposed to the Wii U. I would think that the Wii U would get another price cut before the 3DS.

I don't know if it's likely, but that would be nice considering I want a new 3ds for Smash. I think a price tag of 174.99 in the US would sound a lot better than 199.99

If you're looking to get one and don't mind a refurb, you can get an XL directly from Nintendo's site for $150

I want a brand new one though for Smash. My 3ds is in decent shape (although since I've been using it frequently since April 2011, it's been a little worn out), but I'll probably put in 500 hours for smash 3ds over the course of several years, so I'd like to have a new experience.

How do you decide in advance you are going to spend 20 entire days doing something (No sleep).

It's possible, but I wouldn't hold my breath. I think the 2DS was Nintendo's answer to offering a lower price.

But you don't necessarily need an "official" price cut to buy cheaper. There's deals all over the place for the 3DS. Heck, I've seen some as low as $150 for an XL. The Mario & Luigi Dream Team bundle was like $180 when it came out, and included a $40 game. I'd just shop around- Newegg, Amazon, Best Buy, Toys R Us, Walmart, Target, etc. Look for the cheapest price and/or the best deal, and roll with it.

The most I would expect this year is a bundle. Perhaps a bundle with Pokemon Alpha Sapphire/Omega Ruby, perhaps a Smash Bros 3D bundle, or perhaps a bundle with an as-of-yet unannounced holiday title. I could be wrong of course, but that's my prediction. I don't foresee another price cut until fall 2015. I think they might drop the price down to $179.99 at that time. Not sure anyone's gonna want to wait that long just to save $20. But that's all it would be, if they do drop it. It's not going to be some significant reduction. They're too close to cost already.
