The game looks interesting. I have both(well my sister) Animal crossing on the DS and WII. I am 15 this year(14 now), however, my mum doesn't approve me playing any M rated games.(But I still play halo at my friends house). Ok, back to the topic, what do you think the age is. I support if you like it, buy it. However, this game looks childish but addictive...(I don't have any 3DS games). I rly don't know what to buy...(I am a Mario kart fan boy, but I don't think "7" is worth the money)
Not extremely into nintendo at the moment, but not really into anything else either. :|
@misswliu81 I'm sure you don't know how complex some tasks are. A 4 year old person would just stuff up the town.
from what i've seen of the game based on the footage and some of the gameplay, it looks simple. it said on the trailer vid 'use parental controls to restrict 3D mode for children 6 and under.' so yes, 4 is a bit too young. therefore, i change my mind and go for 6 years of age.
I"d say 5+... a kindergartener would probably have quite a bit of fun with it depending on how well they read, and even then it might help them to get into reading more, you never know. the catching stuff and fishing and digging and decorating your town wouldn't really require all that much reading except to learn how it's done, and that's quite a big part of the game right there. You don't have to play the game 'right' or 'correctly' in order to enjoy what you're doing, especially in such an open-ended game like Animal Crossing.
Younger than 5 would probably need some parental guidance, but they'd still have fun too. and depending on the child, chances are they'd want to do it themselves anyway :3

[16:44] LztheBlehBird: James doesn't know the rules? For shame!!!
As for me, I started reading fluently at age 3, so really, I guess it depends on the individual. I suppose the average rating though (to actually be able to fully understand and play properly) should maybe be around 5+.
I've asked myself this same question. My daughter is 8 and I feel as if this game may be right up her alley. Maybe I'll just take the plunge and buy it for her.
Strangely, she loves playing the Fire Emblem Ambassador game and is pretty good at it. Blew my mind!
You really need to be able to read to play the game, or at least have someone who can read it to you. But other than that, I'd say the game is perfect for any age. There is quite a bit of reading. The animals in the town talk to you, and ask you to do things. You need to shop, and sell items you collect. So for younger children who are have a good concept of reading basics this would be a really good one for them because it would be a way to get kids reading, and give them more practice while playing.
I have two sisters (6 And 16) And one brother (12) that play this game along with myself (14). We all enjoy it, so I would say the age group for this game is "anyone".
Speaking from experience (having played Animal Crossing with both kid & adult players), I think the older you are, the more you'll like Animal Crossing. It looks like a Kid's Game, but imo, its really NOT a kids game.
Fishing, bug hunting, gathering stuff for your museum, paying off your house loans, etc take a lot of patience. Animal Crossing is a slow paced game. There's no action or story in Animal Crossing. Most really young players don't have the patience to play the game right and tend to run around, be disorginized with their town & houses, etc.
Its an addictive game. The thing that really tests whether you're hooked on Crossing or not is if you keep playing even after you have most of the items, seen everything, etc. If you do, then you're an Animal Crossng player for life!
My family (all adults) love Animal Crossing: City Folk on the Wii. We still play it (for the most part) everyday like clock work. And we have adult friends that play it too. The real key to the game is play with people in your age group. You'll be happy and so will your town.
Overall, its a fun, relaxing game. Everybody in my family loves it.
Though, we do wish the 3DS verison was out already! sigh
@James Well, I was thinking "what age group is most suitable for animal crossing?"There are so many opinions on the internet.... @misswliu81 have you played the game before?
I remember my brother and niece bashing Animal Crossing when I got it on Gamecube back in '05 for my birthday. They just saw me running around. But I guess they got curious and when they played it, they got hooked. And to my biggest surprise, my mom wanted to play. I played in the living room because at the time, Metal Arms: Glitch in the System broke my TV lol
So, my mom wanted to play and I let her, of course. Then, I started regretting it. Every morning, I wake up hearing the title screen. She was up and playing. Didn't help that the b-button was stuck-ish sometimes. Anyhow, she'd sometimes play as my character to arrange my house because she didn't like how it was arranged. Annoyed me, because it really doesn't matter if she likes it or not. It was my house and there are no rules in designing your home. She also used the 30,000 bells cheat a lot and got real mad at me when it was misplaced, or that you can only give Tom Nook 3 passwords a day.
And my mom was in her mid 40s at the time.
So, yeah, everyone can play.
(and I lol'd so much when my mom got attacked my bees and she'd be screaming at the television. Or my sister saying that Static has a crush on me because he'd always been walking towards me and "followed me", when, well, it's not the case..)
EDIT: Oh, and I really liked the fact that on the GCN version, you can remove the disc while playing and the game wouldn't freeze up or needs the disc to play at all. So, I let my brother play on his Gamecube in his room while I played in the living room- using only 1 disc
Anybody can play this game. There aren't walls of text that you have to understand in a second. It's casual talking, as if you're in the game or in a different reality. It's not hard to understand. Even for a 5 year old.

for many kids under about age 8, i think the patience thing could be a problem. it's not a matter of whether a 5 year old with reading skills can play it, it's more will they have fun doing so or become bored.
my 6yr old grandson is in 1st grade; he is taking 5th grade reading and math classes. he has played 'animal crossing' and like it for a few minutes, but after he accomplished a couple of tasks for villagers he said: 'nothing's happening, grandma!' and wanted to go back to mario where he could run, jump and bop things, which for him was much more satisfying.
The first Animal Crossing for Gamecube came out when I was in college. When I brought it back to my dorm room, all my friends looked at it and laughed at me for buying such a silly kids game. Within a few weeks, everytime I came back to my room after a class or something a different random person would be in there playing it. It is definitely for all ages.
