Of course you also realize that you can tell your friends that you do communicate using the 3DS that you get your messages three days later, and that if they want to set up a match with you to have them set it for a few days later after sending the message. Liking sending the message on Wednesday saying Saturday 8:30pm lets play Kid Icarus or something like that.

Eh..still prefer a proper messaging system but I guess we`ll find out everything at E3 this year when Nintendo unveils Nintendo Network.

Yeah, Swapnote was crap. I deleted not long after I got it. A proper messaging system a la the PSN one would be perfect.

Why do people point to their wrists when asking for the time, but don't point to their crotch when they ask where the bathroom is?

Seriously, all they need to do is just allow us to write text in notifications and send them out to friends.Simple as that!

a lot of snarkiness here towards someone who is talking about a not-unreasonable capability for either the 3ds or nintendo.

Nintendo does need a better messaging system, they say they wanna get things right with online well a better messaging system would be a better step, they wanna compete with next gen well they need to stop half-assing things, they know the 360 and the PS3 have a better messaging system and they still gave us a half-baked messaging system. Yeah we can use our phones and other media I just wish that Nintendo wouldnt be complaining about how all these other media devices ruin their sales or cause people to not play/buy their games and systems, they need to realize they're not the only company out there and if they don't give us their best then there's no reason to complain about losing customers to apple, MS, or Sony. It's ridiculous how they say they want to step up their game and that they learned their lesson with the Wii but it looks like they're only taking one baby step at a time and they still haven't really learned their lesson. I doubt they were dumb enough to not realize that people would prefer a messaging system like 360 or PS3. It's also sad how some of you Nintendo fans are ok with just getting whatever scrap Nintendo gives you when it's pretty obvious they can give you so much more.

Nintendo should add one just to shut everyone up about it.
The 3DS has awesome games, and in my opinion, that's why I buy a gaming system and that's all it really needs.
Clearly some people desperately want to use their 3DS as an instant messaging system though, and it shouldn't be too difficult for Nintendo to add that capability, so why not?

I think it would be a fine addition. But I buy Nintendo games and products because I think they're worth the money as they are. Messaging for me isn't a huge deal. I don't even play games online. I'll play Smash with friends and occasionally play a game with my girlfriend and other than that, games are a personal, not social, experience for me. No Xbox Live or online Mario Kart. No Draw Something or Words With Friends. No Farmville of Mafia Wars. I play games for me. So messaging options, while I'm quite sure some would appreciate them, won't change for me the value of a Nintendo product.

It's nothing I will clamor for.

Why are some people annoyed that he's asking for this? Are you that much of a fanboy?
I mean really, the reason a console should have a messaging system is because it's convenient for online matches.
If you have a friend system it's a given you should have a way the contact those friends, like a messaging system.
And are people really saying you could just call them or e-mail them? Really? Why should you have to add everyone who you have as your 3DS friends cell phone number or e-mail? Why can't Nintendo implement such a simple feature?

i just get a wee bit tired of the 'i wouldn't use (whatever) so no one else should want it' type of thinking. hey, if it makes you feel good, snark away.

I didn't mean my comment to come off as snarky, so if this is directed at me, I'm sorry I offended.

I'm a person that uses my 3DS primarily for games. I have only added people to my friend list that I know in RL. I'm perfectly fine without messaging through my game system. That said, it wouldn't hurt my gaming experience if Nintendo added messaging, so I'm not against it by any means. But I do stick by what I said before, and that was basically with all the other means of communication available, I don't see why not having messaging on 3DS is that big of a deal. But I'm also not here to prevent any of you from getting all worked up about it either, so have fun doing that.

Can you please find a ladder to climb down from your high horse? A lot of us "Nintendo fans" are perfectly happy using our 3DS systemsfor games. Many of us don't need to messages our BFFs all the time.

You guys are really in denial? Yes a messaging chat would be epic on the 3ds. You guys are such fan boys that Nintendo can slap any half assed thing and you guys are always satisfied. Yes I payed 250$ + 40$ for a game with online connectivity sorry that I want to communicate with my friends without texting them? You guys say Sony and Microsoft suck and are money hungry, last time I checked their consoles are doing better then the wii.

Nintendo needs to copy Sony's messaging system. After all, the only good thing Lametendo is good at doing is copying Sony! Swapnote sucks hard, and we need Skype or something that is equally awesome instead of this cr*p!

Let's not get too riled up. Calling names and being fussy about fairly legitimate complaints won't get us anywhere.

Anywho, Nintendo should implement a messaging system to serve people who need it, but they're likely afraid of the children using it.
