Topic: warning about nyko powerpak+ and warranty

i recently contacted nintendo about the marks on the top screen (a recurring problem for a lot of users)
Since I installed a nyko powerpak+, which i like a LOT, I was scared about screwing my nintendo warranty. I asked in a mail about it, and
check what they answered me:

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us. I apologize that it has taken longer than normal to reply to your email.

We normally have a one-year manufacturers warranty on all Nintendo 3DS systems. So if you had an issue, we would set up a repair order. However, since you installed a Nyko PowerPak+ on your system, which requires opening the system, we will not be able to offer any type of repair now or in the future. You would need to purchase a replacement if your system ever becomes unplayable.

Be warned, if you install that battery, you void your warranty. More power for no more warranty. They didnt say ANYTHING about this on the powerpak+ packaging. Makes me think i couild sue the barstewards so they give me a new nintendo 3DS ? I recycled the package already, so i cant redo a check-up about that. Anyone still have it ? because not telling im voiding a warranty by installing it is quite a problem to me.

for the marks, i installed 360 rubber feets at the top of my top screen, and it works perfectly. Almost as if it was made to be there. the marks I had was on a screen protector, so i am not affected by the that bad.

Ouch! Looks like I won't be purchasing a powerpak+ for the next year or so hahah I checked the Nyko website and they fail to advertise the fact that the product voids the warranty. Although I'm unfamiliar with the process of filing and carrying out a lawsuit, common sense leads me to believe that they are not in the right by selling a product that voids a warranty without stating so. But then again, I don't know much about the law, so they could just be sneaky bastards.

Wh-wha...? I have a Nyko Battery Pak +! What if I just put the regular battery back in if I ever decide to send my 3DS away?

Just do not tell them and re-place the original parts back into place.
but ouch, if it ever breaks get a third party to repair it.

well, you can try and hope they wont see it. i would if i ever need it one day.
my marks problem is gone with the xbox360 pads.

I would suggest a nintendo life administrator to make a warning topic or even an article about it.

i strongly think its an important fact everyone should know before buying these paks. If i knew it first, I wouldnt have installed it and I would have wait for nintendo to launch a new battery. im quite angry at it.
And its a matter I never saw in a powerpak+ review. the kind of thing that would make this product much less attractive.

i dont know much about lawsuit neither. i love their product, but its a damn shame it broke my warranty.

This is the reason you should read your warranty terms closely

i'm not sure it's the job of nyko to insure one doesn't void a warranty. that is up to the consumer. unfortunately, no one reads all the fine print that comes with consoles. i'm sure that after all these years, nintendo has taken warranty writing to an art form level.

Dude, that sucks. I was just about to go to Best Buy and buy one. Even if you don't tell Nintendo that you switched out the battery I think that they still can tell since the bottom screws will be easier to take off.

of course, i dont blame nintendo at all. i blame nyko for not telling.
And I i believe its part of their job to warn people about it.

just like anything that could break or void something, its important your warn your consumer about it, leaving your business safe to lawsuit and keep a good image.

the funny thing is that there is a section in nintendo's site telling how to change your battery yourself. this is why I ssumed it was ok to remove the bottom part to place a new battery. even more since i didnt read anything about warranty on nyko's package.

where is it mentioned it will break your waranty ? i can see that. i even got a good screwdiver, other than the crappy one nyko gives with the powerpak.

The reason that there is a section that tells how to change a battery is because nintendo expects costumers to buy official nintendo licensed batteries.

i got mine from my local gameshop. the guy took some out of a broken 360 and gave them to me
they're the feet of the xbox360, they can be removed easily by hand, and the glue dont leave marks on the 3ds. meaning its NOT a permanent modifications, and break your warranty. I informed myself on this one. so unless you use crazy glue, youre fine hahaha

Thanks! I didn't want to use the pads from my Xbox so I used the ones from a crappy TV antenna. But it's to late, my 3DS has a lot of scratches

It says in the Operation Manual under Warranty and Service Information (susbsection Warranty Limitations) the following (in all caps):

"This warranty (the 12-month Hardware Warranty) shall not not apply if this product: (a) is used with products not sold or licensed by Nintendo (Including, but not limited to, non-licensed game enhancement and copier devices, adapters, and power supplies); ... (c) is modified or tampered with"

So, technically, Nyko didn't have to tell you it would void your warranty, because this is a part of the terms and conditions you should know by agreeing to by buying and using a 3DS, so, from a technical standpoint, you kind of willingly voided your warranty by doing this.

Yeah, you should assume with most electronics that if you "pop the top" you're voiding the warranty.

Uh-oh. Now I have to decide between hax0r'd Pokemon or a warranty. Considering Nintendo's warranty is pretty good, I think I won't try the AR DSi on my 3DS.

Don't tell them if you use it and put it together as you first had it....Then send it in.

They may have a sensor that detects non-Nintendo-brand battery packs in the 3DS, but if they do, 1. I'll be pissed they decided that was more important than launching the eShop, and 2. I think they have (and have had) more important things to worry about than someone violating part of their warranty policy.

looks like i should read and REMEMBER more carefully.
i still find it bad marketing from nyko. I hated every freaking gamepads i tried from them. they either broke fast (some last me 2 weeks !!!) or either were very unconfortable.
now I thought that Nyko actually made something outstanding, until I found it broke my warranty.

but anyhow, the powerpak+ is a GREAT product. the only downside is the warranty breakability.
it doesnt add too much weight, it even feels much more confortable now. reallly.
i think i like this feature more than the power boost. just by rounding the bottom of my 3ds and adding that grippy and soft texture to it makes my gaming time much better.
my hands were a bit sore after more than 1 hour of playing, because the 3DS is rather edgy. Now i got some grip to it.

After thinking about it, im not all that mad about Nyko. sure its annoying, but they gavem e a great product. with the price drop, it wont hurt too much if i ever need replacement.

but i wanna warn people in the case they need their warranty.
