These free games are available to anyone who owns a Nintendo 3DS system and uses a wireless broadband Internet signal to connect to the Nintendo eShop at least once before 11:59 p.m. Eastern time on Aug. 11. These users will automatically be registered in the Nintendo 3DS Ambassador program.

No designation of having to pay full price there (or in the rest of the press release). Sounds to me like just buying a 3DS at any price means it's fair game.

However...

Not that people or retailers are breaking any "rules" or laws by purchasing the systems. Just putting this out there.

In that case both Nintendo of Australia and Nintendo of Europe are a bunch of idiots for wording it that way (I already knew that in the case of NoAu).

Reggie strikes again!

Reggie didn't write the press release, the marketing people did.

That said, Reggie is a smart businessman and would have written it that way anyway, I'd wager.

Consumers who purchased the Nintendo 3DS at the original launch price. That doesnt make sense. If people bought a 3DS used at a used store like Gamestop say like a month ago they are still ambassadors and they didnt pay the original launch price.

Yeah, I think it's safe to say that this is quite an ambiguous situation lol

And people who bought bundles, and therefore technically paid less for the 3DS, also are "cheating" NoAu and NoE's statement. (we don't have Gamestop's though).

That's why I said it was a stupid statement for them both to make.

Yeah, I can't complain. I just got my 3DS from Walmart last night for $169.96 + tax. It was the last one in stock and the systems were still advertised for $249.99! I had to ask a worker there and the $169.96 price was in the computers. It pays to read message boards

I went online, did a system update (which took a while) and I had a message screen welcoming me to the Ambassador Program! Even with my tight finances, this was too good to pass up otherwise I would be still reading everyone else's posts of how cool the 3DS is. Now I know for myself

I'm glad to have bought the 3DS at launch for $250. I personally think it was worth it. Plus, had I not gotten it in that timeframe, I would have missed out on this program- even this Wal-Mart price thing anyhow. It's the first console I ever bought at launch and with my own money I made from my job at that time. I'm glad to be a "True Ambassador". Those who bought it recently with the price drop are "Lucky Ambassadors"

Yes, I made those up. Don't come at me quick, else I'll bite your hand off.

I would like to retract my statement I made in comment #40: I am now a proud owner of the 3DS that paid $170 for the thing and am getting the 20 free games. Out of all of the places that sold it, Target was my cheapskate savior. Thanks, Target. I'll always appreciate your stores.

Thanks given to Xkhaoz for that one avatar.

You can add another one for the "True" Ambassadors. You guys end up getting 21 games when you include Excite Bike

Now I'm really jealous...well not really

I bought (1) 3DS a week and a half ago for my oldest daughter at full price and will be price adjusting it at Best Buy down to $169 tomorrow. Yesterday I bought (2) more 3DS's at Best Buy (had them call Target to price match which they did).

I made sure to login to the Nintendo Store and got the Ambassador notice on all (3).

Woot!

I did the same the night-before-last. I already had mine and picked up another black for my son and a blue for my daughter. Toys-R-Us and Best Buy would not price match Wal-Mart so I had to use the 30 day price guarantee from Best Buy.

Can everyone who used the Best Buy strategy, can you post here about your "refund" experiences? I'll be trying to get my refunds back today.

If you haven't seen GameStop, they are giving their member a 3DS for $99 as a reward program.

Making promise is easy. The hard part is keeping it.

Yeap. You have to trade in your DS Lite, DSi, or DSi XL to take advantage of the PowerZone plus coupon. That could be tough for some DSi owners who need to transfer their downloaded games though. Also, just like similiar previous coupons, it only works when you scan the Powerzone Rewards member card that originally got the coupon. In other words, you can't just give the coupon away without also lending out your powerzone card.

I don't think Excite Bike is free any more. That promotion ended the first week of July I think. If I'm wrong, please let me know because I'll need to download it.

Guys, get over it. Nintendo can't control what these big chains do. So what if there was a crack in the plan and some people managed to get the new price and the games. We're not talking about a huge number of people and that shouldn't matter anyway. If you don't like it you always have the option of returning your system. Me, I signed up at $250 willingly. This is the risk you take as an early adopter.

@Magi Excite Bike is not free anymore.

Anyway, I got my 3DS at Walmart yesterday and am now an ambassador..........yay.
