I've experience voice chat while playing online in Star Wars Battle Front for PSP and it was pretty awesome, so why not have it on the 3DS? Here's a example, your playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare on the 3DS and your online and your fighting side by side with someone in a totally different country or state and your talking to each other while playing, giving commands, warning your teammate of a incoming grenade and they avoid total doom. Anyway I think this would be great on the 3DS. The 3DS already has a mic and if you wanna go a little private you can buy a headset if you want.

Or your enjoying Mario Kart 3DS on your system and chatting while trying to place 1st, 2nd or 3rd. And warning your team members of incoming danger, and only they know what your saying not the opposing team.

Wow this would really beat Sony where it counts.

So tell me what you think guys.

It did? Hmmm... My friend has the game but never used it. I never knew that. But hopefully this will come to every game that uses WiFi. I've never really checked out Pokemon games, so I don't have a lot of info on voice chatting while in the game.

This is already a reality for standard DS games, the most prominent example being the Pokémon games. There was even a proprietary headset you could buy (which are now very cheap, might I add). Hopefully it will be a standard for 3DS games, though.

Yes I hope so. I wonder if the 3DS will have its own headset. That will be something great to look forward to.

Oh jeez, some people on Xbox Live are atrocious (Except for this one guy I talked to.....we got into a conversation about anchovies on pizza....long story). It would be nice for private matches with friends, though. Hopefully your friends would have enough respect not to cuss you out or demean you.

ha, valid point. I can't imagine that hooking up with other players randomly via video chat would be a good idea for nintendo because of just that. anything that involves video chat seems like it would have to be restricted to friend codes to make the chatters responsible for who they are chatting with. I wish there was some other way around this, does xbox online or psn hand out bans for inappropriate behavior?

@Squiggle55, I hope they would ban people for misconduct. Nintendo should have it where you can block someones voice or whatever so u wont have to hear them rant on and on. When I was using the voice chat on my PSP it was fun and I never ran into terror with other players, only one guy insulted me on Star Wars Battle Front because I was winning and he was losing to a girl, that's about it.

LOL. ROFL.

Yep, I've experienced people swearing and cursing up a sandstorm in voice chat and yes even on anime chat sites people post pics of their fragile bodies.

Anyway, I think after having voice chat as a staple on the both Wii, DS and DSi it it all to obvious that voice chat will be a standard thing on the 3DS. I can already seen myself playing Star Fox 3DS and Animal Crossing 3DS while carrying on a lively conversation with my friends, Church fellows and schoolmates.

Want a cup of tea with that chat?

Pokemon Diamond and Pear had voice chat. The Nintendo 3DS will surely support this feature, especially since Pokemon Black & White will utilize the video chat feature, which requires talking and that it's coming to the 3DS as a port.

What we should be hoping for is, how many titles will support voice chat? There needs to be a larger quantity of them.

I can definitely get on board with this idea. I've never been a fan of stranger chat but having the technology there to talk to friends would be good for me.

Oh my gosh, I never knew all that junk happens on the X-box live.

@Super Smash Bros. Fan1999, Well I really want the voice chat on every game that has WiFi. I bet its going to be on all the Call of Duty, 007, Star Wars Battle Front and one other game I can't remember right now.

Video chat is totally pointless.

  • takes up a screen ( which i rather have a usefull map on or something totally different )
  • will get totally abused ( if not little kids acting like supermen, or perverts doing there hobby's )
.takes up resources big time, like gpu / cpu / mem speed.

voice chat is a way better solution towards online gaming for sure.

  • it can run on the background ( keeping 2 screens ) or let it run by the game itself.
  • taking way lesser resources from the 3DS hardware,
  • no more typing ( even while the kids are ennoying on it, it works way better then typing )

With the onboard microphone for talking and a headset for hearing them. its simple perfect. Specailly if they gona create mmo kind of games on it

voice chat would be nice, they could have like what theyve got going on with msn, ask for friend requests, then video chat with friends, THAT would be good. maybe just have an msn app altogether, then use "webcam" with your friends

@ animal crosser

thats fine, but not while gaming. It isn't a ios device. Its a dedicated gaming system. Why do you think that the game freezes compleetly when you are going to the menu. Because it simple isn't possible to run both tasks at the same time.

The voice chat i was talking about = aimed towards a game like voice chat. And not from the system files itself. I really dont think thats going to be possible on a dedicated handheld, without losing resources for the game itself.

Which should be avoided at all cost.
