Hi,

Apologies for two questions in one, but I`m thinking of buying a 3DS. A lot of what I`ll use this for is old ds games (FF 4 onwards etc). I`ve heard quality is poor as it`s stretched to bigger screens, In your experience, how true is this? Also heard confilcting reports on comfort of holding the XL - again, any comments appreciated on XL vs standard in terms of your preference.

1.I have a 3ds xl and i already played in my friends standard and i found the XL graphics a liiitle less sharp than the standard but its not a big deal.

2. When im playng the 3ds xl for more then two hours my hands feel a bit numb after a while.

3.About the graphic difference when playng ds games on the 3ds its kinda blurry, but once you get used to the new feel, it is alright.

seriously i dont get why people even think about this. DS games were not very beautiful to begin with. so yeah the graphics get stretched a little bit but it doesnt look bad. and if you want the original resolution you can do so by holding start and select when launching a DS game on a 3DS system.

You can play the DS game in the original resolution on the 3DS by pressing select I think. DS games have lovely sprite based games that look super awesome and some impressive 3D games (A lot of crappy stuff out there also). You'll notice some drunk pixels (XD) when playing full screen on the 3DS when you focus on it but not to a point where you will be sad buying a 3DS. I do it, and if it bothers you that much purchase a DSI XL or DSI, I have like all generations of the DS and 3DS and am happy to play everything on my 3DS.

One other thing that might bum you out is the placement of the D-Pad on the 3DS, I hate using the circle pad on D-pad games and it's rather hard to use it on a 3DS from time to time, it feels a bit cramped, this is not visually but does affect you in a not so pleasant manner. I bought a grip for the 3DS XL which allowed me to play for long periods of time.

3DS XL plays DS games in 1:1 pixel ratio mode perfectly. The image isn't stretched at all, and the screens are almost the same size as on a normal DS. On the original model 3DS, your only choices are stretched image or TINY, TINY 1:1 pixel ratio mode screens.

I don't think it is good enough even on the XL (1:1 is still too small).

Some games don't play properly either. (Metal Slug 7 is a good example doesn't feel right on the 3DS XL for whatever reason).

I have an original 3DS. The stretched image is a bit too blurry for my liking, but whether the game itself looks hideous varies from title to title. Some games do not scale well to the 3DS screen at all, while others look blurry but otherwise fine. Having 1:1 pixel mode results in clear image that hides the flaws revealed by the stretching, but it is unfortunately tiny. I would play on my DS but the screens on that now have weird blotches on them.

I still play my DS games on my Japanese DSi XL. I don't play them on my 3DS because they look streched, blurry and dull. Even the standard resolution on the 3DS is too small, I mean why play on a small display when you have a huge, sharp DSi XL screen?

God first.
