I was looking up prices of upcoming 3DS games (planning my preorder list) and the cost of Persona Q at EB Games/GameStop is $55 before taxes. Am I the only one who's appalled by this $60 price tag on a 3DS game?

Game is only $50 on Amazon for the standard edition. Still, the tarot cards don't justify that cost for me. I think I'll wait for the price to sink down to at least $40 before jumping on-board. I didn't mind with SMT IV as that came with a soundtrack and a gorgeous strategy guide for the game's first several hours.
Also, it's unfair to factor your state's sales tax rates into the price of the item. It's a $50 game. If it costs more, it's because, like me, you live in a state with backwards tax laws.
Are you sure it's not the preorder special version?
The special version is $89.99 ($80 on Amazon.com, I'm in Canada, so it works out). The $60 does come with a bonus, but still, for that price it better be as good/have as much content as a home console game. Considering it's got the same price tag as a home console new release...

Most handheld games I get these days have way more content in them than more highly priced home console games. I can't remember the last time I got 100+ hours out of a modern console RPG besides Skyrim and perhaps Xenoblade, whereas games like Etrian Odyssey IV, SMT IV, Bravely Default, P4G, etc. can easily extend past the hundred hour mark if you do a lot of stuff in them.
Maybe they'll back down from this price with some pressure. Capcom was initially planning on charging $50 for RE: Revelations.
Well, Altus is always super nice with their promotions on the eshop and their retail games are usually rather limited, so I guess they want to get some good money off the game before it becomes a budget download-only retail game like every other of their 3DS games.
I generally try to support Atlus by buying their games new. $50 is too much for Persona Q IMO, however. Maybe it would be worth it if this fall wasn't already seeing tons of great 3DS/Vita releases.
I just find it a little bit annoying how game prices are slowly rising (almost $50 for the newest Layton game, come on). I love Persona games, but from what I've seen from Q, it's hardly worth $60, so I really hope to see a price drop so I can actually give it a try. I guess I'm just clinging onto the days when new DS games were $40 maximum...

He has a point, the Standard Edition is $49.99 at Amazon. So that means I am skipping it. Not even for Theatrhythm or Smash I am paying that much.
That is a little high IMO. Sure, I paid $50 for SMT IV...but I got the $30 credit so it was like paying $20 for it. Persona Q just seems like a fanservicy spinoff that's trying to get people to buy the next iteration on PS3/4...and TBH I wouldn't even pay $50-60 for the main titles at this point with how afraid I am after all the milking of P4 that's being going on lately...so I don't think I'd pay that for Persona Q especially when games like Pokemon X, Zelda, other Atlus RPGs, and other great games are $10 less. To each their own though, it looks like a cool game...but I've been getting picky with my RPG's lately, especially when it comes to price.

Uh... I haven't paid over $30 for a Layton game in years. Of course, I'm preordering them on the internet, but still...

I should really just starting buying my games online.
Get it. If they try to argue that the price was wrong, throw a fit and demand your money back and compensation for your trouble. If a major retailer lists something for a certain price, they need to honor that price if the order is completed before it is changed.
