So I just bought the sweet Mario and Luigi XL bundle. I bought the original 3DS a few months after it came out and decided the bigger screens was worth the upgrade. I went to the system transfer and starting reading all the fine print they have listed there and nothing I purchased on my original DS will transfer over or be playable on my new one? You've got to be kidding me right? I buy to 3DS's brand new from Nintendo and I can't even use the software I purchased?

Please tell me I read something wrong and that I will be able to. The whole reason I bought an XL was so I could get rid of my original one. I don't need 2 3DS's.

Afaik the system transfer transfers EVERYTHING, so all your accounts, purchases, Miis and so on. Not sure why the fine print would state otherwise.

That's great news.... except that the new DS comes preinstalled with the Mario and Luigi Dream Team. It says it will wipe this system when I do a system transfer. So I can either keep the Mario and Luigi game or restore my old stuff?

I never transferred(or got a second 3DS) but I heard it transfers all the data in the system but things in the SD card must be transferred "manually"
I think what the print means is that you must do the transfer to keep your stuff(those things can be pretty misleading sometimes)
there's this too, the very reason I didn't get a special bundle ever, not sure if you get to keep it or not....

I'm pretty sure it will wipe the system clean, but you can go to the eShop and redownload the game for free. Check Nintendo's website, I believe I read something about it on there.

After some research, it appears that you'll be safe. It may delete the game, but you still have the license so you can get it again. Here are my findings.

What Is Transferred During the System Transfer Process?

  • All content downloaded via the eShop on both systems (DSiWare, Ambassador games and status, 3DS Downloadable software, etc) will be combined together onto the target system.
After the transfer is complete, titles will be available to re-download from the Nintendo eShop on the target system.
  • Any game data that is duplicated on both systems is overwritten by the data on the source system.
  • Any games and funds purchased with the Nintendo eShop will no longer be playable on the system
    they were transferred from.
The eShop balance from both systems is combined together. (Total amount cannot exceed $200 or
    the transfer will be canceled.)

-Data associated with any pre-installed software or applications (Face Raiders, Streetpass Mii Plaza, etc). Only the data associated with the source system is retained.

  • Pre-installed games (Mario Kart 7, Super Mario 3D Land) are treated as a standard Nintendo eShop
game license. The license will be on the target system once the transfer is complete.
  • These titles are stored on the SD card of the target system, so if the SD card is switched out,
formatted, or removed, the title will need to be redownloaded after the transfer is complete. (How to)

Ah many thanks. I was starting to worry. I've heard lots of horror stories about how the Wii U functions and I thought that I just screwed myself with owning 2 3DS's. I will give it a shot and hopefully it all works out alright.
