Hello, Its Animefan23.
I have a question, if my 3DS is reaching its last legs, should I upgrade to the New 3DS XL?
Quite honestly, my 3DS is in rough shape.
I've had it for 3 years, and the headphone jack doesn't work, and the paint is chipping, and since the release of Smash Bros, the circle pad is starting to wear down.
Should I make the switch?

My NNID is NickStrife and my Mii is NickStrife so if you see me out there in either Mario Kart 8 or Smash or Splatoon thats probably me!
GameStop is offering $75 off a New 3DS XL with a trade-in of a OG 3DS. Your 3DS sounds like it's in pretty bad shape. $75 is certainly more than you'd get off your 3DS if you tried to sell it in that condition.
Yeah, do it. My 3ds is in good shape tho. Turns two in August. I will wait until then, barring a drop or something. Might wait until December for a good deal.
If you have the money, I say go for it. My 3DS is almost three years old. The battery life is atrocious and the A button doesn't respond all the time. I've also found that as I get older, the smaller screen bothers my eyes. So an upgrade for me has been a no-brainer for a while.
I'd say it depends on how much you like Xenoblade Chronicles. I'm kinda assuming that it'l be the only full exclusive, though many games will have exclusive features. Hope I'm wrong about that, but it kinda seems like if any others were being developed, they'd have said (to help sell it).
I'm waiting for more than ONE exclusive game, when it gets to be like ten or twelve I'll actually take interest in it.
Then you will probably never get the New 3DS. I doubt there will be many exclusive games, just exclusive amiibo functionality
Then there's no reason for me to buy a New 3DS is there? I can play smash bros just fine and I can use the Amibo functionality on the Wii U version that I own. There will be games that use that hardware, but not right now, for now I'm not going to bother since I just bought a 3DS XL recently for the smash bros skin. (thankfully it's not a decal for those concerned)
Right now it looks like the only reason to get a N3DS is because Xenoblade Chronicles with updated textures and possibly SOME 3D (to the same level of OOT 3DS) other than that not interested. I'll wait for Xenoblade X to come out.
They will be releasing a prepheral to use Amibos at some point anyway, so I'd rather buy that instead.

The Project S.T.E.A.M. Amiibo functionality has me interested in a New 3DS but if I can't get all the Fire Emblem Characters and/or if they do officially announce a portal for normal 3DS then I won't need a New 3DS.
People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

I am still using my launch system so I think I am long overdue for an upgrade! The additional features like the ability to watch videos on the internet browser and the quicker load times for games and miiverse are enough for me to warrant a purchase. The fact that the screens are so much larger than mine is icing on the cake.

An amiibo adapter/portal has been officially announced for the original models of the 3DS, so amiibo functionality is not exclusive to the New 3DS. Something to note....
Formally called brewsky before becoming the lovable, adorable Yoshi.
Now playing:
Final Fantasy XIV (PC) | The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch) | Celeste (Switch)

While that is true, the Amiibo functionality is WAY less accessible on the non "new" 3DS's. Hauling around that accessory isn't really convenient to be honest.

True, but would hauling around amiibo be any more convenient?

I knew you were going to say that but yeah, that would be somewhat inconvenient as well, imagine having to use the accessory apart from the 3DS and then put the Amiibo on it. I never brought my CPP with me, but did bring my games and stand (the one you got with Kid Icarus). Not to mention, it uses IR and needs te be pretty well aligned.
I think it is great that the accessory will be released, though it has just too many drawbacks if you ask me.
