What the heck? Those are ridiculously good prices?!
They're reasonable. Most new games for PS3/ Xbox/ Wii (or, Nintendo's Wii games) cost $100-$110.
The average wage in Australia is much higher than in the US. In turn luxury goods are more expensive, because it's the price the market can bear. It's also much more expensive in terms of logistics to get product around a country as massive as Australia, with such a small population. As Skywake alluded to, the percieved value (as in, what Australians think money is worth) of $70 is roughly the perceived value of $30-$35 in the US.
Try buying board games here some time. $120-$160 is not uncommon.
I still think the distribution/distance/population argument is a load of BS considering it was $100AU vs $50US for new AAA titles when we got 50c in the $. Our $ is now hovering around parity and the prices are the same so we have reason to complain about the huge margin someone is getting along the line.............. it's just we have enough money not to care THAT much

That "huge" margin doesn't actually exist. Exchange rates are, relatively speaking, a small influence on the price of a game.

Which is why a $15US movie sells for $15AU in Australia and a $25US movie sells for $25AU...... and games are the same with Starfox 64 and Ocarina of Time 3D on 3DS selling for $37-38US in the US and $59AU in Australia
It's all those other costs like distribution, the size of our country compared to the US and the classification board that apply equally to games and movies that explain why game prices are higher and movie prices are not. The exchange rate doesn't make a difference given those other costs and they aren't making extra money per unit in Australia compared to what they make overseas in general and the US in particular. Nothing to do with the fact that that's how the prices have always been and we have enough money to only care enough to complain about it on message boards but not enough to stop buying the games.
(prices for the US are from Amazon and prices for Australia are from JBHiFi, post is dripping with sarcasim)
W-T-F!!!! All we get is a god damn key chain with Mario Land! I would literally KILL for that sweet hat! I'm not too bent out of shape about the Mario Kart thing because of the Club Nintendo hat but its still better than the nothing that we get. I'm definitely tracking one of those Tanooki hats down on eBay after the game launches.
key chain o.o i checked the site all id get for preordering 3d land and mario kart 7 is a mario pin set for each game or something lol
O_o I didn't know about those pins....from what I can see though, that is an offer for those who buy both Mario Kart and Mario Land. I'm pretty sure we get a Tanooki Mario keychain (I saw a poster in the store) with just the Mario Land pre-order. Still though, I'd give up both for that hat

You'd give up some pins for that hat? Just some pins?! We're not made of Tanooki hats, you know...
...just kidding, but I do see your point...of course it's like you now see Nintendo releases from our perspective. Where once we got late releases with nothing good extra, we now get late releases with something good extra.

We may get Mario Kart 7 on the 1st of December though (don't other territories get it mid-December?).
Where did you hear that we may get Mario Kart 7 on the 1st? Or are you just assuming because it's a Thursday? I just assumed we'll probably get it on the 8th. Japan gets it on the 1st, Europe gets it on the 2nd and North America on the 4th so the 8th sounds about right for us.

Jesus Christ, you guys pay way too much for stuff. Overpriced much?

It's listed as having a 1st December release date on the EB Games computer systems. The reason I put 2 and 2 together and came up with the 1st is the simple fact that games without a confirmed release date are listed as being released on the 31st December of that year (just look at Kirby's Adventure Wii, which while also coming out in December is still left ambiguously un-dated at the moment). Plus, the additional fact that the 1st happens to be a Thursday means that, logically, MK7 must be released here the same day as Japan, a rare occurence for us without a shadow of a doubt.

@NintendoPurist Well I hope you're right. It'd be nice to get to start playing something first for a change. Hopefully they'll tell us a release date soon.
