Just call yourself Nintengod or Amaterasu. (I'm so sorry I forgot how to spell his name.)
For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday. [url=http://www.backloggery.com/jumpmad]Unive...
Technically speaking, it IS an RPG since you play the role of link. That's part of the reason link has no dialouge- you, the player, are supposed to feel like you are link, riding through Hyrule and vanquishing evil.

So I have a mini-rant that I've been wanting to spew out for a while now, but I couldn't find a good outlet for it. But this thread seems as good a place as I'm likely to find.
3D. "Just a gimmick," right? That's what the critics are saying. What constitutes a "gimmick," anyway? Based on what I've read, it's basically something that's added to the gaming experience, but doesn't really do anything to improve the gameplay and won't dramatically change the way we play games in the future. Sure, I'll agree with that. 3D is a gimmick. But is that really so bad? I want to know why there's such a stigma about gimmicks, as if they're something to be reviled or ignored. Because if you don't, then you're falling into their trap. You're being tricked into believing something will be better, even though it won't.
What?
So 3D isn't better, then, I suppose, But why do "being better" and "not improving gameplay" have to be mutually exclusive? To be honest, though I purchased a 3DS at launch, I didn't buy any games and hadn't really intended to until Ocarina. So here I am, playing this fantastic remake for a couple hours and I'm thinking, "gosh, this looks amazing in 3D." When I drag down that slider, the entire game looks duller by comparison. Superficial? Maybe. Unnecessary? OK, I'll accept that. That doesn't mean 3D isn't a tool employed by games to improve the player's experience. What irks me is when people make that connection which doesn't logically exist. The 3D doesn't improve gameplay so it detracts from it. Except... that's totally BS.
Without giving specific examples, I've read a number of reviews of 3DS games (including of Ocarina) which plainly accuse the game of not taking good advantage of the 3D effects offered by the hardware. Hey, critics, and you know whom you are! Stop unfairly veiling your points with negativity. Believe it or not, it's possible to add something to a game and make one aspect of it better as a result, without improving the rest. The net result is still positive, or at worst, neutral.
And I'm done! Sorry for selfishly unloading my fury upon you hapless forum-goers, who probably mostly agree with me anyway.
PS: I use the gyro for aiming, most of the time. As for 3D...
rant accepted. I don't know the appeal of the 3ds I just had to have one - and now that zelda is out = no life for days ;p as far as a gimmick, I am not sure. I can see both sides. i enjoy with and without the 3d. back to zelda: the action adventure rpg ;p
My second playthrough - the Master Quest playthrough, is mostly going to consist of playing in 2D, because I will have already seen most of the game in 3D and I just want to be able to freely use the gyroscope aiming without worrying about having to look at the 3D screen from straight on.
Hey BAZ,
to keep the gorgeousness rolling i can give a little tip. Stereo 3D AND motion control actually work pretty well ! You just have to get used to not only turn your system when you aim but turn your head in the same axis as well. Its like the handheld and your head form one axis alltogether. Ofc for the silliness its best tested with a turnable chair
I will keep 3D on ALL times just awesome .... And im deeply impressed by the new motion controls. Either looking around or aiming its just superb control. Try for example just to relax in the Hyrule Field ! Look around , especially look at the sun or moon raising. The lense flare is just craziness in stereo 3D !!

That's not what makes a video game an RPG, that's the literal definition. Games like Final Fantasy and Pokemon are called RPGs because they keep track of character stats and experience in a similar fashion to tabletop games like Dungeons and Dragons, not because they're actual role-playing games.
I play it with 3D on 95 percent of the time as I do with all my 3DS games. My eyes work just fine with 3D so it doesn't bother me at all. The only time when its a tiny bit inconvenient is when you use the gyroscope to look around. It just takes a little getting used to though. Motion controls with 3D on really isn't that bad. I played all of Face Raiders with 3D on max. You just need to learn to twist you head in accordance with the system.
