DSi: Top screen: { 3.25 in. } { 256 x 192 resolution } Bottom screen: { 3.25 in. } { 256 x 192 resolution }
3DS: Top screen: { 3.52 in. widescreen } { 800x 240 resolution } Bottom screen { 3.02 in. } { 320 x 240 }
As you can see, the 3DS bottom screen is almost 1/4 of an inch shorter than it's DSi predecessor's bottom screen! Nintendo usually increases the screen size with each new model. The DSi and 3DS are about the same size, so this shortage of screen is probably because of the Select/Home/Start buttons at the bottom. Most likely those buttons will stay there in the final design, but maybe Nintendo should move them to allow for bigger screen size?
Maybe it's to accommodate the new (and finally standard) resolution? Perhaps also to conserve battery life, considering the top screen is fairly immense and rendering doubly as fast. Is 3.02 in. the size of the DS Phat/Lite's screens? Anyway, nothing is finalised yet so we'll see how it ends up.

Yeah, the DS lite has 3 inch screens. They are pretty much the same size. At least the 3DS has higher resolution to make up for it. But it would still be nice if Nintendo moved the Select/Home/Start buttons to maybe the area that the GBA slot was on the DS lite.

That would be just weird to have buttons there!

That smaller bottom screen is a little annoying when playing Ninja Gaiden DS
sighs This is getting annoying...really wished threads would be auto-locked after a certain amount of time. :/
A lot of necro bumping has been happening lately.
