Topic: The 3DS Browser does NOT support flash or HTML5.

I certainly wasn't expecting it to support Flash. That would be a long shot; few small devices do, and even then it doesn't typically work all that smoothly.

If we're hoping for Youtube, the best chance would be a dedicated channel / app, which would be immensely more efficient than trying to run the old (and honestly somewhat dated) architecture of Flash within a mobile browser.

it cuts the web browser's joy to use by a third!
then i wont be able to watch things on newgrounds neither.

not supporting flash means that nintendo fears people will go play FREE online flash games and dont buy their eshop games.
okay, thats a bit excessive, but still. its a great disapointment.
what will happen if you try to enter a web page containing flash ads, like gamefaqs do sometimes. or websites like ign who has small flash components, but nothing that interacts with the content.
will it crash ? will it refuse to load entirely? i do hope it will display grey boxes or something, but still display the webpage.

Maybe these'll come in an update to the internet browser, like the Wii since the Wii didn't start out with flash 9.

i think there are a lot of people that would even pay for a youtube-channel on the e-shop.

I wouldn't. Why pay for something I can get free at numerous other places?

didn't YouTube announce they'll soon handle 3D videos? who else is going to use this, that huge amount of 3DTV/monitor owners?

Well, that's dissappointing, but as long as it still supports Facebook and Wikipedia I think I'll live.

Exactly.

It's cool, I don't really care that it won't support Flash since I wouldn't use my 3DS to browse the internet or watch videos. Besides, my cellphone supports Flash and has a Youtube.

Also, as far as I know, Youtube doesn't necessarily require Flash or it wouldn't play in Apple devices, videos can also run in HTML5...will the 3DS support HTML5?

Hopefully an update, because they never improved neither the Wii or DSi browser. Perhaps its for the best that they don't add on flash.

I mean there might be an Youtube channel in the works?

this wouldt surprise me.
Nintendo seems so scared that younger users see what they shouldnt, or read things they shouldnt.
it even surprise me they let internet to come in.

I dont mind if they bring in applications related to videos or popular websites. it can go much better, but it can also be super controled and secured too. I like to watch random things, some of them include horror videos or metal music. will that be censored or simply blocked? geez. i didnt buy the 3ds as a toy, but as a console. i hope they wont make that mistake.

they can simply install the applications already blocked by the parental lock, requiring them to be granted by the user or the parents. this way, you cant install something without having to unlock it properly and keep it secret from mommy and daddy.

@3DSneedsRPGs - Actually, I think the announcement stated that Nintendo had dropped their partnership with Opera and changed it to another provider, who has browsers that supported Flash and possibly HTML5, and we all sorta assumed we'd get a Flash & HTML5-supported browser as well. Still, that's kinda a kidney shot anyway.

Flash is an archaic technology for the web, and one that should be phased out over time.

As for HTML5, that is certainly where the flashier or more advanced web work is going, but I wouldn't have expected a device like the 3DS to support it. A gaming system simply isn't ever going to have a cutting-edge browser. Its hardware is optimized towards the GPU and whatever it needs to render games as efficiently as possible, not towards the kind of general, memory-consumptive processing it takes to display all the complex content on the web.

^This. Supporting Flash would have been a bad thing, and no doubt would have preformed terribly on 3DS hardware. HTML5 would have been nice, but it doesn't really matter. I'm guessing most people will use the browser mainly for game help, anyway.

game help and video streaming.
you can see everyone with their iphone watching videos. its great to watch them in the bus.
i want video streaming like youtube or whatever.

i had to chose for nintendo over the ipad. because my favourite gaming consoles was gameboy and all its successors. i had everyone of them so far, but i almost skipped the 3ds due to its price.
for over 250$, i expect content out of this machine. i expect it to be up-to-date with current handheld system technologies like iphone or psp.

thats the thing so far with the 3Ds. its based on hope.

i'd be happier if it were just faster than the DSi Browser, lol. most of the sites i visit have basic HTML or mobile versions of themselves anyway, so this news is no big deal for me :3
