Well, I know one of the greatest assets to this 3DS is something rather simple, and so far has been overlooked. The multitasking capability of pausing the game and going online to look at game guides and whatnot. I'm excited for that.

For those who are planning to trade in their DSi's for the 3DS at launch- you WILL lose all of your DSiWare. The eShop and the DSiWare transfers will not be available until an update is released in May.

EDIT: This apparently applies to all territories, US, Europe, and Japan.

Yes. And taking notes. That is something I wish both the Wii and DS could do. I like to take lots of notes when playing games like Rune Factory, where you learn important stuff when talking to NPCs.

I'm playing the 3rd one on DS right now! :D And yes, notes would be helpful. Is that an app coming out on the 3DS?

I'm playing RF3 too. Yes, notes can be taken on the 3DS. And saved to SD card. When I find a link I'll post it.

OK, here's the link:

Here's the relevant quote:

  • hit the HOME Menu to access your Game Notes, Friend list, Notifications and Internet Browser
  • Game Notes lets you write and draw notes on the lower screen while you are viewing a game on the upper screen
  • upper screen display can be a resized screenshot of both screens
  • switch between screenshots of the upper and lower screens
  • notes can be saved to an SD card

I'd heard about this. I was a bit disappointed that it's going to take so long but I guess it'll be fine. There are some people who really didn't bother with dsiware and others who did so I guess it'll suck for those who did...

As for myself I plan to keep my dsixl, so this doesn't bother me.

RE: Virtual Console scaling issues

While I've been one of the most skeptical / concerned about the scaling problems for Game Boy titles on the new VC, this video looks quite crisp (go to youtube and watch in highest quality). I'm not as concerned now; this doesn't seem horribly blurry.

I also have another idea about how they could improve scaling (maybe they are already doing this? who knows). Flicker is an effect used by some emulators to solve scaling problems, where they alternate 2 scalings on each subsequent frame, so that some horizontal lines are shown half of the time and some the other half; this allows them to create the edges and shapes better without losing any visual data. The only issue is that this essentially halves the effective framerate, since you're alternating information. On the 3DS, however, they can send all the information at all time; just alternate which eye gets each version, so that you're always seeing everything in one eye or the other. It would look quite smooth, and wouldn't even look odd if you moved out of the sweet spot, as you'd only be losing some effective framerate at that moment, not producing ghosting effects.

It wasn't a stretch blur, but a smoothing and blur filter applied to the game to make it look nicer.

They weren't really bugs. They meant it to be that way, instead of looking sharp and pixelated.

Well then hopefully they'll give us plenty of options, specifically to turn featres off. I hate blur filters.

Well, like I said before, that probably wont happen because of the new plan set by Nintendo. They plan to release games consistently for the next few years, meaning no gaps in between the release dates. Having new games come out all the time, there would be no reason to lower the price, especially when there is no 3DS lite planned either. No revisions, good supply of games, no reason to drop the price. And they know people will wait for their game to come out before they buy the 3DS, and in a few months is when the big Nintendo games come out. They wouldn't drop the price for that.

There's nothing to compete with. The NGP wont come out at earliest till Fall, and with it's hardware, it's going to hit around $450 dollars, so the 3DS will already be the cheapest in the hand held market.

Yeah, Sony might even be silly enough to charge much less for the NGP than it's worth just to screw with Nintendo
