I love it and think it will do well. It's biggest issue I think is price, might be hard to catch the casual and younger market - that is where I think the DS was a huge success and I think they need to keep it going for those out of reach. I think Apple get away with the price of the iPhone because a mobile phone is regarded as a necessity so I think people are willing to pay that extra buck. Obviously price is relative to technology, so the choice of technology really affects the scope of market - usually Nintendo is quite smart in this regard, I think we will just have to wait and see how things pan out.

What I'm excited about is all the functionality:

  • 3D games and DLC
  • Gameboy games
  • Pedometer and Game Coins - I do a lot of walking :-)
  • Mii's and Spot Pass
  • Artificial Reality

I'm honestly wondering if the 3DS will actually add walking to my daily routine... There's really nowhere to go in that regard but up. You can't walk less than 0 steps a day, can you?

Maybe Nintendo will implement Pity Coins for sedentary slobs like Murd...

As posted at another site by me, where the opinion of thte 3DS is largely negative. Thought it would fit nicely here:

It seems Nintendo can do no right. First, the DS is blasted for being too primitive of a product, then the Wii. Well, Nintendo has listened, and their new system has premium graphics with a 3D display and impressive power. They have, as far as I have read, improved every aspect of the previous DS, and not just minimally. But now the unreleased 3DS is being criticized because it's "too expensive."

The many who begged for advanced technology from Nintendo are now bashing them for listening. Technology comes at a price, and before now Nintendo used technology that allowed them to keep prices down. Now, the price is a little higher, and in return we get an advanced portable system that isn't so primitive. I'm not saying it's cutting-edge technology, but its far better than that of the DS. If you cannot understand the concept of better technology equaling higher prices, then I don't know what to tell you, except stop criticizing every move Nintendo makes until you do.

I think it's pretty neat actually, even if the price is high (such is expected for advanced technology). It combines most of its features in such a way, that you can adapt it into daily living. For example, the pedometer - even if you don't walk outdoors a lot, try going up and down in your living room. :P

I'm overall happy that it has much more useful and fun apps/functions than most handhelds usually implement. It's a great improvement to the capabilities of the DS series. :D

Otherwise try a treadmill or lots of Wii Fit :D.

I've pre-ordered one.
Mostly just because I want it. I'm excited for it and I can afford to get it so I will.

The feature that interests me the most is actually StreetPass. I go to a number of anime conventions so I expect it'll at least get some use there. I'm also hoping that I'll be able to find other Nintendo gamers in the small town I'm currently living in... or at least evidence that they exist. I walk around almost everywhere and tend to keep my DSiXL on me already anyway so it won't be any different with the 3DS.

I know a lot of people keep bringing up smart phones and how that will do it for the casual gamer. I agree in a lot of ways. I've got and iphone as well and yeah for those few minutes in between here and there it works great for that kind of thing. And really most people need some sort of phone these days too.
Personally I've been thinking about ditching mine when it comes time to renew my contract. While I like it and a lot of things it can do, I'm not really sure it's worth the monthly bill I end up paying for it. I don't even like to play games on it too much since that kills off the battery pretty quick and before you know it I'm stuck without a phone until I can get it charged.
Really stuck without a phone too. I don't have a landline. I don't really see the reason to bother.

My husband seems to think the 3DS is exciting but he's willing to wait on it. At least I know he'll be wanting to check mine out when it shows up.
He has no depth perception so the 3D thing doesn't interest him much, although I know he wants to play with the slider to see if he can detect any kind of difference. Though I'm doubting he will be able to.

People whine all the time, especially on the internet.

Anyways, I'm not bothered by the launch window anyway. I still have a few DS games I want to try

The only criticism I have is I wish the bottom screen was the size of the top screen, but it's not a big deal since it's not in 3D anyway and it wouldn't make sense to have a 3D touch screen.

I really wish Pokemon Black/White was a 3DS game, but I guess I'll just have to wait until the next Pokemon for that. Pokemon battles would look so good in 3D with better graphics.

I would like to see them include the feature of downloading demos of the major releases on the 3DS. I would like to try before I buy. That is one quarrel I've had.

Ohhhhh man I forgot about that video! Thank you so much for putting that back into my head! I'm a much happier camper again. No more downsides to the 3DS again. XD

Didn't know where else to post this, and felt like not wanting to make a whole new thread. Was wondering though, is the bottom screen going to be upgraded too? As in, the graphics to "match" the top? I know there will be some games out there that will use the bottom screen like that, so I dunno...just came to my mind.

I love Erica (Strike Witches), Eureka (Eureka Seven), and Tenma (School Rumble), stay away from them. xD
Update: Also love Yukari and Mizore from Rosario + Vampire.
Another Update: Also Yuuki...from School Rumble...
Yet Another Update: Also Amber and Xiao Pai from Rune Factory 4.

Well it won't have 3D graphics like the top screen will, but I think there may be an upgrade because many of the 3DS games used the touch screen. Dunno for sure

The bottom screen is not 3D. I believe it is a higher resolution than the screens of the DS though.

DSi screens: 256 x 192 pixels
3DS lower screen: 320 x 240 pixels

But note that the 3DS's lower screen is physically smaller than the DSi's. So the 3DS's lower screen has a higher pixel density than the DSi's.

Put your analyst on danger money, baby.

The only thing I dislike is that the demos lower your high expectations for a game you've never played which destroys all your hype.

Demoes let me know whether or not a game is worth buying. If it is worth it, that just makes me more hyped.
