if the home menu is different maby they'll update the wiis home menu too.
Not gonna happen, I think. They can't change the Home-menu on Wii-discs, so only in channels and the Wii Menu but not on disc-games.

@theblackdragon - I was thinking, though- if the 3DS only has 3D on the top screen like speculation is saying (Which I find sad), then the top screen would be cool to use. It would change menus FOREVER!
I personally don't see the point in a 3D menu. It may look cool, but I seriously doubt how it could be made worthwhile.

@Birdman13 - I was just kind of thinking of the GameCube menu, it looked pretty cool (in my opinion), and if they could use that idea, somehow, it would look really cool in 3D.

i think the menu should be like the wii menu and should also have a bar at the bottom like the ipod touch menu

I believe, after a bit of logical reasoning, that the 3DS's home menu will contain...
A battery life gauge
A reset button
And a clock
I believe, after a bit of logical reasoning, that the 3DS's home menu will contain...
I also think if this is what Nintendo has in mind for a 3DS Home Menu, perhaps it will also have brightness control settings (unlike having to hold the Select Button and press the volume control buttons on the DSi).
I'm back (for the moment)!

I honestly don't want something where you can choose a picture for the theme, I would like it if it was color themes, and transparent so I can see the screen. It would look much more professional. And I assume the battery gage and clock will be on the top screen, while you tap different options at the bottom.

Maybe something like on Steam, where it lets you open a web browser during gameplay.

All I want is for the Home Menu to be built-in to the 3DS like the 360 and PS3, NOT into the game like the Wii. Doing this would make the Home Menu fully upgradable, and possibly allow you to open up the menu in DS games too.
I'm pretty okay.

I think I know how they could do that. All they would have to do is have it so when you press the HOME Menu button it would tell the game it's in sleep mode.

I thought that the dsi's menu was just lazy, dull ,and plain. It felt like I was at a ware house with boxes everywhere. I want some taste to the menu and more colors than just white. It needs a ton of customisation so as soon as I turn it on I can tell exactly who's it is.

But if the game thinks it's in sleep mode, the whole system will go into sleep mode, and that wouldn't be much of a menu, right? It seems like it would be possible of Nintendo to freeze the game, or they could let the game run while you are in the menu unless the game wants to pause automatically, like the 360 Dashboard.

I think the home menu could be able to have a option to pick a song you want to hear (like the ipod touch) so we can hear the music we want over the games music or maybe even hear both at the same time. now THAT is a home menu option. but do you guys get what i mean?

@theblackdragon The thread you locked in favour of this one was about a totally different menu. The "home menu" is the one that appears when you press the home button, overlaying the current software being run on the 3DS. The other thread was about the menu you are shown when you switch on the device, like the channels screen on the Wii. That is, assuming they aren't one and the same (which I think is a reasonable assumption).

I can understand what you mean. But I think the Home-menu is now also the same as the standard menu. Look here:

@HolyMackerel: I had already seen the trailer Invmat just posted. since there is a 'home' button on the 3DS, why would it not link to the 'home menu' as shown in the trailer? whether or not they're truly one and the same may remain to be seen, but for right now, both can be discussed in the same thread.

Oh wow, nice. Yeah, it shows later in the video the lady pressing the Home button and the main menu appearing. That's a great move by Nintendo!
It opens up a lot of possibilities if there's a complete interface available when you press the Home button, rather than having just the overlay.

Look here:Subscribe to Nintendo Life on YouTubeIn this video, you can see the word "Home" when that woman opens/starts the 3DS. So the 3DS Home-menu actually turned out to be the normal menu. Now I think about it, the name actually makes sense this time. If you press the home page button in your browser, your home page starts up. That's the same page as the one you see when you start the browser. Compare it with the 3DS...This is a real home-menu instead of the pause-menu we had with the Wii.
exactly, just wanted to say that. Just check the movie.Press 1 time home button = towards the main menu, where you got boxes "which you probably can customize" with options.like the movie indicates.
You can see, that you can either chat with other friends, see your progressions / check web etc. Once you press again the home button it will redirect you towards the home menu, and once you press it again it will continuous the game.Ofcourse you can watch cloak etc. But they can already throw that onto right corner or something of the home screen.
so basically your game will get in somekind of pauze mode.
Anyway, i wonder how they gona dispatch demo's/trailers etc, do you need to go towards a site for it, or is there somekind of secondairy program running that checks it for you.

i know, right? i'm wondering if we can have a game in progress in the background (like it thinks it's in sleep mode) while an app is running in the foreground. there's a lot of times where i'll be playing a game, get tired in the middle of a fight or some other point where i can't save, and then have to just shut it off so that i can use the Mario Clock as an alarm clock (like if my phone isn't around and it'd be a pain in the rear to get it, lol). i would love a feature where i can exit out of my game in progress to the Home menu, open the Mario Clock (or whatever other alarm-clock app i want to use) and then be able to resume my game from where i was later on.
