I just bought Tetris 3D/Axis last week and so far I still not have beaten Marathon mode, I think compared to the DS game, it's got a better difficulty because I bet Marathon in one sitting on the DS version. I understand that Tetris DS is a lot harder to find these days, as I heard they stopped printing them a few years ago, but what' actually better? I own both versions (and no I haven't picked up Tetris Party Deluxe) and I can't really decide what's better. The 3DS version is helluva more addictive and there's way more music that just the original theme, plus you can customise your Mii and and have him dancing or whatever, plus there's more modes and online that isn't laggy (it evens lets you practice while you wait to hook up with other players). There's also local multi and download play (both versions have these features), plus spotpass.
I understand the arguement for the DS version, I think Tetris DS is made by Nintendo in conjunction with Tetris Holdings (so it's Nintendo's Tetris), There's a lot of nintendo assests like modes based on Balloon Fight, Metroid, Donkey Kong etc , so I can see why people flock to that version. On the other hand I'm not sure if it's as addictive as the 3DS Tetris, the DS game has plenty of inspiring new modes, but half of them never really excited me when I bought that version. However I'm speaking at a point in which I haven't had the oppurtunity to try all of the 3DS modes (I don't have my aR cards with me at the moment), but I'm loving the 3D effect.

So What do you guys think? I think they're both pretty neat in their own way, but hey Tetris is Tetris and it hasn't changed awfully a lot, unless if you count the spinoffs like Tetris 2 or Hatris.

Myself I have only played the NES, GB, Tengen and DS Tetris as well as Tetris 2, and out of all of those I enjoyed Tetris DS the most. Well actually I liked Tengen's version of Tetris but good luck trying to find a cheap copy. I like most of the modes in Tetris DS which adds some variety. Its not just your standard Tetris game. Plus you cant go wrong with the Nintendo references. As far as Tetris 3D goes well I haven't played it so I cant say about that one, but I am pleased with Tetris DS so I dont see the need for another Tetris game.

Oh and I will add that I have also played Tetris Attack but in case you didnt know thats not an actual Tetris game.

DS has a greater difficulty level. I prefer Axis for the party modes.

@Tasuki I'm pretty sure Tetris Attack is actually just a skinned version of the japanese game, Panel de Pon or otherwise known as Puzzle League.

Yeah it is. Nintendo just added the Tetris name to hit hoping it would boost sales and make it popular here in the States. However that is one of the reason the partner ship between the Tetris Company and Nintendo fell apart. They didnt like the fact that Nintendo was using the Tetris name on stuff not even related to Tetris due to the popularity of Tetris. I just mentioned it cause yeah it had the Tetris name but I dont consider it part of the Tetris series.
