Hi i originally bought a 3DS transferred to an 3DS-XL then transferred onto the New 3DS-XL now after comparing DS games on the new 3DS-XL they actually look every bit as good as on the original DSi-XL which if you wasn't aware the original 3DS/XL DS games looks horrible and washed out etc thing is i have a DSi-XL with many dsiware games ive previously bought and now that my New 3DS-XL can display the graphics correctly i wish to transfer the content onto my New 3DS-XL is this possible ?
Also if memory serves me correct dsiware games were stored on the systems own storage and i had to delete some of my previously bought games to make space for other downloads meaning i own more game thats actually on the system so how does that work with a transfer ?

Not sure if you can do this. Technically you were supposed to transfer from your DSi to your 3DS/XL, and then to the New 3DS.

You cannot do this. If you did, all data would be overwritten.

You should be able to transfer DSiWare games from a DSi to a 3DS without any problems.

You can do a partial transfer and send the games you want indivually, even if they aren't on the DSi at the moment they'll appear in the list.

But he has data on his New 3DS XL already, so all his data will be overwritten.

@XyVoX Not sure if the New 3DS changed the options, but the transfer Dsi-3DS had various option, included a simple Software transfer instead then the full System one. If the New 3DS still have such option than you can move your DsiWare titles one by one without problems.
Just make sure as I said to select the partial transfer and do it only with the softwares. Moving other things like photos will cause a overwrite anyway.
Regarding the deleted games I don't remember if you can transfer them too. If they won't appear as a choice in the software transfer than just redownload them. Keep in mind however that all DsiWare transfered will lose their saves and that even on 3DS you can only use the games saved on the console's memory; the ones not fitting in can still be saved on an SD card, but like on the DSi they won't be accesible from there.

The software transfer from Dsi to 3DS add the DsiWare games to the 3DS instead than rewrite anything on the receving system. I tried it personally and no 3DS data was lost in the process ^o^

I have said this before, but just sending games from a DSi to a 3DS does not overwrite anything on the 3DS.

There's nothing on the DSi that would need to overwrite anything on the 3DS if you do a partial transfer, and even if you do a full one, few unimportant things will be overwritten (your DS settings on your 3DS)

Actually, deleting the DSiWares you want to transfer from your DSi beforehand will make the transfer faster, because it won't have to send the file, just the rights to download it.

The games will still appear in the transfer list.

So are you saying that if i delete all downloaded titles from the systems storage then transfer it will just transfer all of my purchases in their entirety over to the New 3DS-XL ?

If you do a partial transfer, you'll have to send each game individually. Depending on the amount of games, it could take some time.

If you don't have the game installed on your DSi (but you bought it), the transfer will just give the 3DS the rights to download it from the eshop. You'll then have to download it yourself later.

If you do have the game installed in the DSi, it will first check if you have space on the 3DS and then download the game to the 3DS. If you don't have enough space on the 3DS for the download, then it won't let you transfer it at all until you make space. It's just more of a hassle overall.
