A sequel or port of my favorite 2D Mario game ever? Yes please!
But, if it happens, I honestly don't think it should be a port or remake in any way. I think it should be a sequel, but with the same feel of the original..... same map style, taking Yoshi from level to level, all the secrets. But I want new levels.
some games are so perfect as they are that they won't gain much from a port other than the "ooh look, it's 3D now" novelty. super metroid and super mario world are a few of those games i'd consider impossible to improve, and unlike starfox and ocarina of time, their gameplay doesn't stand to obviously benefit from 3D.
that's why i say a port is a lame idea. of course, i'd still buy it just to have one of my favorite games with me anywhere in 3D, but a whole new mario world would be a better use of their time. there's still a few things mario world has done better than all the newer games- everyone agrees it has by far the best world map and secrets levels. nearly every level has multiple exits, the paths constantly branch into secret areas, and the toughest levels lead into an entirely new world which itself hides a secret entrance to a doubly secret world. there's never any moment where you can't unlock something hidden throughout the whole game, something every other world map has failed to deliver.
Well Adam, I know that Wikipedia is not the best source for information, yet in this case I know they're on the right track. Wired.com (Wired Magazine) has also made indications that we're actually going to see a new Super Mario World game for the Nintendo 3DS and from what I've read on various tech and gizmo news sites is that Super Mario World will be released via the new app store that Nintendo has planned for the 3DS.
Keep in mind that E3 is a confusing time and many journalists post anything they hear. Until you show me confirmation from Nintendo, it doesn't matter if Wired Magazine has given "indications" that Super Mario World is being remade for 3DS. Iwata himself said they were merely tech demos and they were not certain if any of the NES / SNES demos would ever be released on 3DS, or how. It's possible they ran complete misinformation. This happens. IGN was saying since the Wii launched that Retro was making Kid Icarus Wii. Ha, ha. But more likely it was a poorly worded reference to the tech demos in hopes of an eventual retail release or download.

Great point Adam, that is indeed a great point you've got there.
BTW SuperMarioFan96, I agree with you. I think the new Super Mario World game should indeed be a sequel as opposed to a straight remake.

The one thing I want out of this game (if it is real) is to keep Charles Martinet out of it. When I tried my cousin's copy of Super Mario World Advanced on the GBA, I felt that having Mario's voice in there didn't really fit in (although that might be because I played the original a lot). I also felt that giving Mario and Luigi different traits made the game unbalanced. I'd like to see Luigi in this game, but please make him like Mario. I'd rather not have to switch between the two.
I'm pretty okay.

Well I'm inclined to disagree with you on that. I think that Mario's voice should be in the new Super Mario World 3DS game. I also would like for Mario and Luigi to have different character traits as well as that also helps to make the game more enjoyable. Plus, upon having Mario, Luigi and Yoshi in Super Mario World that should help to make multiplayer features more than likely as well. We must remember that this is going to be a new Super Mario World game and not a carbon copy of the original.

If they do this, they should defiantly take a few ideas from Mario World romhacks level-design wise. I simply felt that Super Mario World was way too easy and forgiving.

You do realize that most romhacked copies of Super Mario World contain levels that are crushingly difficult and completely unfair on every level? Because they do.
On Topic: PLEASE, let Super Mario World 3 be a thing. I love the first Super Mario World and I would do quite near everything to see a "True" sequel to that game.

Well in order for me to buy it this Super Mario World 3 game would have to be obviously 3D and a sidescroller with a 3D environment like Dragonica and Donkey Country Returns.
