Yoshiaki Koizumi, director for Super Mario 3D Land, recently expressed a desire to possibly remake past Mario/Zelda games for 3DS.
When quizzed by Official Nintendo Magazine on going back and improving past games like the Zelda team did with Ocarina of Time 3D, Koizumi mentions how he would like to use the improvements in technology to someday revisit past games.
One of the examples given was the use of the Iron Boots in the original Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo 64. Koizumi-san worked on the interface for the game, but didn't realise that there would be a temple that relied so heavily on switching to and from the Iron Boots - the Water Temple. It's something like this that was addressed as a shortcoming with the original and improved on in the 3DS remake.
As for any specifics, Koizumi denied any interest in any one game that could be remade, but did mention Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Sunshine as two games that he would be like to see visualised in 3D, but not necessarily remade for the 3DS.
Guess I can't really say one title specifically because then the world will expect us to make it and I'll get into a whole lot of trouble!
I can say that I really would like to see a lot of those games that use 3D worlds on 2D display just so I could see what they look like in 3D and see what kind of different experiences people would have with the enhanced features.
Would you like these remakes? Or do you want something new which Nintendo seems to be lacking in at the moment? I was rooting for a Sunshine sequel, as personally it is my favourite Mario game, but I'm not really desperate for a remake. I suppose I wouldn't mind the remakes though, but I'm more in favour of releasing some new stuff on the 3DS.
i loved sunshine ! but i dont need a remake of this one. as it will probably do the same with mario 64 DS. ill be all hyped, buy it, play a couple of levels then stop it because...you know, i already did all of it and remember its flaws, which i didnt want to redo again.
i would like galaxy, since i never had a wii so never had a chance to play it. same goes with majora mask, which my N64 died before i could try it.
I despised everything about Sunshine, as I may have mentioned a few hundred times so there's no way I'd want to see that turd again. Beyond that, I really don't want Nintendo to become dependent on constantly rehashing their previous games.
I'm pretty sure I think I'm funnier than I really am. 10 Years of Kingdom Hearts 3DS Friend Code: 0301-9785-9580 [url=http://www.youtube.com/user/NeoStormGaming]Watch me and my friends play games! Now with better visual qualit...
If they can remake Halo, I don't see why a Sunshine remake wouldn't work. I'd just like some significant changes to the game rather then slapping it on a cartridge

I think Nintendo needs to focus more on making new games rather than remaking old ones. One of the reasons the 3DS failed to bring in massive dollars was because there was almost nothing new on the system, and what was new on the system didn't appeal to the majority of the gaming audience (Ghost Recon Shadow Wars 3D) or was just not very good (Dream Trigger). Now, if Nintendo released some sort of new Zelda games along with the system, then the things would've been flying off of store shelves and we would probably still have a $250 price point.

i've never played sunshine so i wouldn't mind a remake but i agree that they do have to make new games, which they did with Kid Icarus, Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7.
Want: Harvest Moon: One World, Story of Seasons: Pioneering Town, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
Finished the Alola Dex.
Now playing New Horizons, Wrath of White Witch and Sword
Sunshine is fine. Galaxy already had a sequel that it didn't deserve (fortunately, the sequel was better). It doesn't need a remake, let alone so soon.
of course nintendo needs to focus on new products. but nintendo should be wise and create a new team that will focus on nintendo remakes. that way we will get neat remakes and fresh stuff at the same time.
as for sunshine, i love the tropical, summer feeling of it. everything was bright, making the game quite enjoyable to me.
the only thing that i didnt find that great was the pump. it was ugly and could have been avoided by replacing that feature of the game by something better. it was breaking mario's trademark move, like forcing you to use it for long/high jumps. forcing you to replenish all the time...
I don't really see a need to remake Super Mario Galaxy or of the other classic Mario games when we've got Super Mario 3D Land as that game is basically a SMB 3 remake with the SMG vibe and spirit at it's very essence and core. Let's have a new Mario title on the 3DS like sequel to Super Mario Sunshine.
If Nintendo really and truly is going to go forward with a Super Mario game remake then I hope that they'd give us 3DS remake of Super Mario Sunshine. Especially if they ARE not EVER going to give us a sequel to Super Mario Sunshine.
