I liked the Bee suit, but I guess it's a bit redundant with the Tanooki suit back. I'd like to use the Penguin suit in a 3D setting.

My favourite power ups are the ones that change the way you play, but can actually be more of a hindrance than a help, and mainly allow you to show off. Power ups like the Hammer suit, Frog suit (if you use it on land) Cape (on levels where flying is not encouraged) and the Blue shell. That's one way a 'linear' 2D or mixed Mario game can give the player more freedom.

You're saying powerups that restrict and hinder the player give the player more freedom? I don't get it.

I see your "I don't get it" and play an "I really don't get it" in response.

It's about a less than simplistic look at it. These power ups give you the freedom to play differently, should you have the ability and the imagination to do so. In a straightforward way, just putting Mario in a field with power ups would be the most free, but it would soon be boring. Nintendo gives you the tools, it's up to you what to do with them. You don't have to finish the level in a linear fashion.

In SMB3 you can defeat Bowser with the Hammer suit. The suit is a hindrance, but you can do it that way if you want. Freedom. In SMW you can use the cape and skillfully stay in the air the whole level, even if the level isn't best suited to it. You don't have to go for the most straightforward route. Freedom.

Oh...I get it now.

By the way, we have both the Fire Flower and Ice Flower, so why not any more elemental Flowers? (I don't see the Superball Flower or Power Flower as being "elemental" Flowers per se)

How about the Lightning Flower, which sees Mario or Luigi throwing charges of electrical energy to zap enemies (well suited for aquatic or metallic bad guys) or power machinery to open new routes?

The Earth Flower could see Mario or Luigi throwing small boulders which roll or even bounce along the ground in a fashion akin to the Superball power-up, along with the added bonus of releasing damaging earth tremors whenever the brothers ground pound.

The Air Flower might give Mario or Luigi the ability to toss sharp slices of wind to cut both enemies and plant growth which blocks the way along one route, as well as extra height and distance when jumping.

These are just a few of the ideas which I've posted here today. What do you think?

To those who thinks the Boomerang Suit is new, it's not. It was an e-reader feature in Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3.

No offense, but who the hell had an e-reader?

It was popular in Japan, just not so much overseas.

But for the record, this game is lacking Power-Ups. I don't count the Propeller Block as an power up, its more of an helpful "Accessory" than Power-Up. I'd Love to see NSMBWii Ice Mario, and Rock Mario from Galaxy 2.

The Propeller Block acts exactly as the Propeller Suit from NSMBWii. I don't see why it wouldn't be considered a Power-Up. Seriously, the only difference between them is the appearance.

Actually, the Propellar Block actually seems kind of nice considering Mario fits inside it, and is still able to retain his current power up (like a fire flower) and still utilize the flight aspect.

It looks like the Propeller Block will be one of those "temporary" power-ups (like Kuribo's Shoe, Yoshi, etc). Mario keeps his previous suit, and the block disappears at the end of the level.

It's still new here as only half of those cards were released in the West

I know it won't be here, since there's no need for another flying suit. But, anyone else hoping the Super Cape from Super Mario World returns someday? (daydreams) Like in a Super Mario World 3? Loved the ability to float, push the opposite direction on the control pad to give yourself a little extra height, and ground pound by zooming straight down! Plus it truly made Mario like Super Mario to have a cape!

Let's attack aggressively, kupo! :D

Some of those ideas exist already in some form in Mario games. The "Air Flower" sounds like the Cloud Flower, because you form clouds reaching greater distances and height with it and you could just use the fire flower to burn plants and attack enemies. The "rock flower" sounds like the Rock Mushroom to me. I think theres enough projectile power-ups in the series already and using the elements to solve puzzles and stuff seem more like a Zelda game or something. There should be a variety in the items.

@FluttershyGuy: I think the Cape is better than the Raccoon Suit in every way possible. Nintendo reduced the Tanooki Suit to a glorified spin attack/parachute, but I'm not sure I want to use the Cape in a 3D game, because I feel like it would end up being like the Wing Cap. (For some reason, I hated the Wing Cap even though the concept is similar to the Cape.)

Edit: My favorite flying power-up is the Propeller Suit, and the Propeller Block looks like it works really well in 3D. I wish it didn't disappear at the end of a level, but hopefully it will be in more levels than Kuribo's Shoe was.

Might get some hate for this but.. I don't like the Tanooki Suit.. I like Raccoon Mario better. Just ears, and the tail. The reason why is because it just looks.. off to me, like Mario's some High school Mascots. Raccoon looks more cooler and dignified. I hope Raccoon Mario can make it in the game as an option instead of Tanooki.

The Tanooki suit looks really silly. Raccoon Mario is superior. Of course nothing beats the cape.

Ya, I've always prefered Raccoon Mario to the Tanooki suite as well, not because the tanooki suite looks silly(because it doesn't, it makes mario look totaly awesome) but it's just because Racoon Mario sets off more nostalgia for me and because it's the main power up regarding the racoon tail, where as the tanooki suite is more obscure in the game.

But we all know the Frog suite is where it's at.

@Waveboy No matter, lol.

To get back on topic though, I'd like to see the frog suit, though I doubt we'll see it because we've already seen Mario underwater in the trailers without it. Too bad. Hope to see Kuribo's Shoe in at least a couple levels though >.<

Next Mario Game needs to bring back some old power-ups
Cape.
Raccoon.
Bunny.
But I really don't get why Nintendo didn't consider Raccoon Mario, It was the highlight of SMB3! You didn't get the Tanooki Suit till World 5!

Since they basically excluded flying with the Tanooki Suit/Raccoon. The power up (For Raccoon) should be these.

Run Faster.
Glide.
Able to climb certain terrain.
And Tail Whip.

Changing up the abilities would hurt the nostalgia, which is the entire point of including the abilities, right? But then again, Nintendo added the Tanooki Suit for the nostalgia and took away the ability to transform into a statue, so I don't see it not happening.

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

But if the Kuribo's Shoe is in, I do want it frequently, and not just for like, 4 levels.

What's so great about the Kuribo's shoe? I mean, all you can do with it is stomp spinies and walk on chompers. Not something I'd like to do frequently, and it's hardly practical in a 3D game.

Yea, but wouldn't it be better in a 3d game because you can see what's coming? In NSMB i always used to fall down pits using the blue shell suit.
