:30ish in the first and :32ish in the second definitely sound similar and the repetition of the melody is similar throughout both as well! I can't really tell if it's a remix or if they just follow the same style. Shiho Fujii and Ryo Nagamatsu did most of the music for NSMBW, so it will be interesting to see who does the music for SM3DL. If it's the same guys, it could very well just be their style of music.

I always thought that the music from the trailer was a remix of the Super Mario Bros. 3 overworld theme, specifically the part from 0:16 to 0:29 (in my included video). It also sounds a bit like Bob-Omb Battlefield from Super Mario 64. Listen and be the judge:

Good points. I guess the music is a hybrid of SM64, Super Mario Bros. 3, and NSMB all put together, with a few Super Mario Galaxy tunes thrown in.
