Only thing I don't like so far. Otherwise I'm actually quite excited for this.

it goes Suit->Big->Small, so it's the same as in Galaxy in terms of health.

Bloop.

I know this game will be worth buying and all, although a little something here kinda bugs me; When we all saw the original logo with the tail, I thought back to raccoon Mario, (and how the 3's logo had the raccoon tail and ear) and not necesserily tanooki considering that's more the iconic image Super Mario Bros 3 had on its cover, so shouldn't that same leaf turn him into raccoon Mario, not tanooki? I mean, the only other real difference tanooki had was to turn into a statue, but has anyone ever found that to be really useful before vs the other suits? Also, to whoever mentioned this earlier about calling it 4, I'm pretty certain it was implied back then that 4 was Super Mario World, Besides, there's no 3rd Galaxy/3D game in this particular playstyle, so 3D is most suitable here.

Tanooki >>>>>> Raccoon. All the regular tail can do is fly/glide. The Tanooki not only looks cooler, but it can turn Mario into an invulnerable statue for a bit. At least, it should be able to. I hate that it seems they've nerfed it to death in this...

Thats the only thing I don't like about this too. That should stay in the 2D Mario games and the 3D ones should keep the circular health meter.
@abgar No its not, galaxy had the circular health like all the other 3D Mario games.

Except in Super Mario Galaxy you could get your health back with a freakin' coin. In this you gotta wait for a ? block. I hate that. Leaves you too vulnerable.

Yea but like, other than the statue, which I've never found to useful at all as opposed to a deathtrap for losing the suit shortly after, fly/glide is really all the tanooki does, too. Honestly, i've always felt that raccoon Mario looked cooler And not that I dislike the other suits, but I've just always felt that as longas you can at least partially see Mariowearing his regular outfit is what should be. Stuff like the bee in Galaxy didn't interest me too much, but things like the Ice Flower, or items that morph/enhance his outfit like the cloud flower, the rock/stone mushroom I forgetwhat it's called, stuff like that just always seemed a little more fitting imo. Although I always did like the Hammer Bros suit cause it's sorta like his cover among enemies if you think about it, which would be another neat concept expansion for the series. Frog suit is probably best for underwater, but I've always found that troublesome moving/maneuvering with that 1. And even though it's from World, not 3, i've alwysthought the cape worked out fairly decently, too.

I love the return of the classic heal system, personally. I always hated the Mario 64 style.

I think they should combine elements from both health systems. They could have the circular health meter with three segments, at 1/3 he's small, at 2/3 it's like a Super Mushroom, and same thing at full health unless he has a power-up.

Unfortunately, according to Super Mario wiki, the levels will be more linear than previous 3D Mario platformers and flagpoles will be instead of power stars so it seems like I might have right in thinking that it would be like a 2D Mario platformer with 3D Mario platformer style levels. I'd rather they didn't merge the two and kept them seperate.

That's actually a very good idea.

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

I honestly don't think I ever died from health in 3D Mario unless from drowning or trying something stupid out of boredom. Six hits is a lot when you consider that it's actually easier to dodge in 3D than 2D, and coins are much more readily available than mushrooms ever were. I would be glad for the new old system even if the game were otherwise just SMG3. My Galaxy deaths were always from falling.

It sounds utterly pointless IMHO.

In an interview with Koizumi, the producer of the 3D Marios, he said that the levels will be like the classic three-minute ones of 2D Marios and it'll have more of the core Mario experience than all the other 3D games. I'm actually thrilled that Super Mario 3D will basically be 3D Mario acting like 2D Mario because that does make it seem a lot more traditional, and when you come to think about it, the three or two hit health mechanic would make the game more challenging because in 3D Marios you have up to six pieces of health. The thing about collecting coins to increase health is that it does make the game a little too easy on you, and Koizumi even said that they might not add a Super Guide in this game.

This is exactly why I'm thrilled with Super Mario 3D as well. Little Mario for the first time is making his retro-ised debut in a 3D Mario game which should make the experience far more difficult and intense, the flag poles are in full force, levels are linear and shorter like their 2D Counterparts and the Takooni suite is back!

Butttt if there's one thing that didn't make it's way through the transition is the RUN button, which honestly would of been nice. But at the same time, the levels and area's look so much smaller and confined this time around, that the ability to use a run button may of made the experience too crazy and hectic.

But that's the thing with Galaxy, it was such a slower controlling experience which kind of threw me off and was even unlike Mario 64 regarding the zippity quick controls. Galaxy played and looked fantastic, but i wish it would of been a bit quicker, it's got weak replay value imo and for me half the time I was honestly kind of bored with it. Galazy 2 looks miles better.

Really? I could've sworn I heard there WAS a run button. I'm glad there's not one, then. That's what the slide pad is for. SM64DS only had a run button because a d-pad is basically just an on/off switch, while a slid pad/analog stick has actual depth. Besides, Mario can roll.

I laugh at how the fireballs look when Mario throws them. They go the same speed that they do in SMB . Also, in the end of the mini-boss fight, was that an original piece of music or was it remixed lol

On the release date chart at gamestop yesterday they showed this one coming out the first of november! Not sure if this is old news but oh well!

Sorry to disappoint, but that's probably a placeholder date. Usually when a shop has a release date set as the 1st of a month it's just a placeholer for a date that hasn't been announced yet. Nintendo hasn't announced Super Mario 3D's release date yet, so don't believe anything you hear unless it comes from Nintendo themselves.

There is a run button — it's X.

Yeah true, and also this seems slightly too early. I'd expect it to launch around December.
