I've beaten the first 8 worlds, all 8 special worlds, gotten every star coin, every gold flag and now I've gone through about half of the first 8 worlds as Luigi. Can't wait to check out the final FINAL level.
<end spoilers>
The amount of content in this game is insane. It really, truly is. And the best thing about it all is that no matter how tough it gets, it's always still fun. Galaxy's comet challenges often seemed to lose sight of that goal. There was never a point, no matter how many times I died in SM3DL, where I wanted to quit because it just didn't seem worth it to me to keep going.

So, can anyone figure out exactly how the circle pad works in the game?
Some out there have insisted that it's only 8-directional and not true analog. That's doesn't seem to be quite true, although it does seem as if it sort of locks you into the direction of the stage unless you move significantly out of that direction. There's certainly some kind of auto-correction going on to keep you from always moving back and forth when you intend to run in a straight line, but I can't quite discern how it's working or how severe the adjustments are.

I haven't had that problem with the analog pad at all.
Loving the game, Clocked around 19 hours so far, and thats for getting the four stars in my file. I thought the game would be easy all the way, but aside from the first four worlds, the game ramps up the difficulty scale, particularly in the special worlds. Even with all these awesome stages, its the little details that I particularly enjoy. The game's 3D was well integrated and used cleverly in some areas(Optical illusion rooms, Isometric cloud stages, Demo room). Through and through, this game is just pure fun, and for those of you 3DS owners who don't have the game yet, get it. Every Super Mario platformer title is essential for your Nintendo backlog.
Spoilers? Working my way for the last star so I can unlock the ultimate "level", and to do that, I have to replay every level as Luigi. Ughh, I have to run against Shadow Mario again? I can't tell you how much I died in his levels, especially when you're pressure timed. But other than that, I look forward for replaying all the levels, great level design here... even if they are a minute long(. /Spoilers
Quick question: to get the Star (and secret final level) you get for beating every level as Luigi, do you have to get all 3 Star Coins and the golden flagpole with Luigi too?
Not really, just get a gold flag with at least one brother with every level beaten with both Mario and Luigi. You don't have to gold flag every level with both brothers, If the world map shows a gold flag, then your good to go.
So what're everyone's lives records? How many time did you die by the end of the first (and second) World 8? I lost 20 lives by the time I finished the first World 8, and this includes going back for all golden flagpoles and getting all Star Coins. Have barely started the Special Worlds though. How about you guys?
