I found that odd that the stylus was on top do you think it wil work better or worse that way? Also what is that thing that I boxed in red that is not the stylus? I thought it was a usb port but, that would be a small usb port.

The DS Phat Stylus was on top though. Not much of a problem and it's better if you lose them a lot I guess because the right side won't feel incomplete if you lose your stylus.
I'm pretty okay.

Maybe to connect your Miis to the system so you dont have to remake a mii if you have one you like already sorta like the Wii Remote that holds a mii and you can take it to your friends house.

Yeah, that's definitely the IR Port. I guess it's used for the future Pokewalker (With the Pokewalker, they had to put a IR Port directly into the game card for it to work), Simple Trading an Transfer (it would probably be faster than doing it Wirelessly), and whatever else they want to use it for. I think it would be awesome if I could use the 3DS as a remote control for my TV. They have iPhone Peripherals that let you do that, what about the 3DS using what's built in.
@HiroshiYamauchi: Actually, that would be impossible with just an IR Sensor. See, the Wiimote actually has a tiny low-res camera inside, which sees the IR lights of the sensor bar as if they were normal lights (if you ever recorded a sensor bar with an SD Camera, you'll know what I mean). It sees these lights and figures out where it's supposed to be on the screen, and sends this information to the Wii. You couldn't do that with just an IR sensor. Plus, it would seem awkward to point at the screen with a handheld, especially with the receiver area at the side, rather than in the middle.
[quote=Otaku]Maybe to connect your Miis to the system so you dont have to remake a mii if you have one you like already sorta like the Wii Remote that holds a mii and you can take it to your friends house.] You could do that wirelessly, through the Mii Channel, even already to a DS using Personal Trainer: Walking. Besides, do you see any IR sensors on the Wii? (Note that the Wiimotes don't have IR sensors like I already mentioned).
I'm pretty okay.

Do people really care where the stylus is stored? What difference does it make? It doesn't in any way affect how the stylus is used.
I'm pretty okay.

Where do you all get that idea. Nintendo never said anything about infrared and why would they replace their Wi-Fi with a method that needs direct aiming at another infrared port which would also only allow two consoles to interact. Wi-Fi lets multiple players connect even if you're in the next room.
Look, Nintendo did say something about it. It was in an interview I read with someone who was working on it. And what makes you think that Infrared would replace wireless? It's there for things like a future Pokewalker (They had to put an IR sensor in the Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver Game Cards for the Pokewalker, and in the interview the guy explained they put the IR sensor there so they didn't have to do that again). Just because they had an IR Sensor on the Gameboy Color did not mean it replaced a Link Cable for Multiplayer, did it? I wish I could link to the interview, but I can't seem to find it.
I'm pretty okay.

It is an ir sensor. I just was looking it up. I also think that the stylus has a new locking system because, it just destroys the stylus. Maybe like a little claw grips it tight on the inside with a movement of a switch.
