The mine is open in Fall of year 1. You're almost there.

I'm in the middle of Winter Year 2. Got married to Nadi at the beginning of the season (who I fell head over heels for just a couple days after he came to town, he's such a perfectly adorkable tsundere <3) and chose the deluxe eastern style wedding so the pregnancy event is about to be triggered soon. I'm liking the eating with your spouse feature, it's such a cute little marriage sim thing and a clever way to restore energy in the middle of the day. I'll probably stop around Year 4, have a couple of kids, maybe expand the Safari and reach the final upgrade of the house. I don't really have any desire to unlock the last two vendors... the requirements just seem like a chore and I'm not even close to reaching some of them. At that point, I'd rather just start a male file and marry one of the girls.

In Summer of year 2 now. (still no free time) I think I spread myself a little too thin. I have three full greenhouses, and two and a half full fields along with two full barns and a coop. I'm ignoring the public fields because by the time I finish watering and brushing and petting everything I have to eat something or risk passing out. Trying to woo Iris but it is slow going because of her schedule, my schedule and not having the items she likes all the time (though I am plying her with tea leaves since I have tons of those)...sounds like my dating in real life actually. Got a super lazy dog and a cat. Five vendors unlocked. I'll start working on the last ones and their crazy requirements later. Thank Miyamoto that I decided to play on seedling mode because I knew I wouldn't have the time to really work on this. Going to get some playtime in today though since its the first day off I've had without being sick in months.

^Wow, yeah. You've got a lot going on there. I think you should get the Orchard and Mushroom & Honey Fields at least since you only have to plant seeds/place the bees and then come back to collect later. I have no greenhouses and only trees growing near my farm. I have most of public fields though but don't use them all at the same time. Tall Crops, Spices, and Root Crops have been my go-to's. I have two barns and two coops, both nearly full. Not adding any more animals until the Llamas, Black Angora Rabbits, and Black Alpacas are available then I'll probably sell off my "secondary" ones. And yeah, the dog is pretty useless, the cats at least bring me stuff.

I'm sure it should be discounted at some retail stores by now. This kind of game always get discounted fast.

And yeah, checking for used games on GS is probably a good idea too.

@LoveSugoi: Got another greenhouse. Also just won the spice field and the honey/mushroom field. I've got a system going and the dog is now on shepherding patrol so I can pretend he is useful. Ive been getting lucky with the mystery seeds and getting super mushrooms...helps clear the green houses pretty quickly!

@Morpheel: Its price has been holding steadily, actually. Granted, it's only been out for 4 months. In fact, I think Harvest Moon usually held its price until sequels were announced, and the only "sequel" right now to Story of Seasons is Popolocrois Farm Story, which is probably different enough to not make the prior game seem "obsolete".

Hm interesting, I remember I always found the DS harvest moons for like 10 bucks in discount bins when I visited the U.S. (Back in the DS days, of course).

Then again, it's true that this game is still rather young.

@Morpheel: Until the new price drops there will only be a few dollars difference, unless gs got a ton of them in trade (thats the reason watch dogs was usually really cheap used even though msrp hadn't dropped) but if you stack it with a pro card and a coupon its not too bad.

Happy Gaming! (^_^)

Good luck. I have a feeling you'll like it quite a bit. It can be tutorially near the beginning, but since you're apparently new to the formula, you'll probably need it.

In the harvest moon (and Story of Seasons) games, harvest sprites are little magical creatures that represent and protect nature.

Most of the time they're allianced with the harvest goddess, but they can also be independent in some games.

The usual theme is that they/the goddess/the land have a problem, but only the pure of heart can see them. Most of the time that means that only you can, so they usually end up asking for your help.

In real world mythology, the word sprite comes from "spirit" and is usually just another way to call fairies.

@Barbiegurl777

Great, happy to see you got the game! Here's a few tips:

1. Save 5 bags of turnip seeds. I'm assuming you're still in Spring, so buy and put away the seeds now because they won't be available to purchase the rest of the year.

2. As you'll find out, you can build makers (makers are essential in making many of your products more valuable) in this game and upgrade your house. I recommend you build the seed maker first as this is very essential in upgrading crops so you can win the harvest competition at the end of each month. The general idea is to use fertilizer on the crop you want to upgrade everyday and once you harvest the crop, put aside a few to make seeds and replant. Repeat the process until your crop is 5 star. This is where the turnip seeds come in as they are part of the materials needed to build this maker.

3. Hoard as much Lumber, Stone, Brick, and any more material find as you can. A good way of looking for material and gemstones is by fishing/diving and mining (the mine won't be available until Fall).

4. The second Maker I recommend you prioritize building is the Sewing Studio. This is vital to you participating in the seasonal fashion shows and making the fur of your animals more valuable. Flax seeds will be available after you ship 150,000G worth of items through Silk Country (the first vendor). BUY AND GROW LOTS OF THEM. Spin them into Linen cloth, dye them in gold and then turn them into cloth. This is a very easy and cheap method to make lots of money as each cloth sells for 2800G a piece. I usually horde them to win public fields.

5. Speaking of public fields, make sure to get the Spice (they're also worth a lot of money), Tall Crops (to grow Flax), Mushroom & Honey (low maintenance), and Root Crops fields if nothing else. Grow trees around your house as they're low maintenance and plants grow slower on your own field.

6. Once the Safari (and mine) becomes available, start planning your days so you're done with chores/shipping before 17:00 so you can take your animals to there everyday for several hours. I think it's after 100(?) hours spent in the Safari when animals will start to produce "+" items which are more valuable.

7. Eat at Raeger's restaurant every day. It's a good way to replenish energy and he eventually gives you recipes every now and then. Oh, and please do build a kitchen for your farmhouse asap!

8. If you want the guy you decide on dating to propose to you, give him gifts everyday. It takes 150 gifts to receive a "reverse" marriage proposal. Otherwise, you'll have to initiate it.

This is an extremely helpful guide to everything about this game: http://fogu.com/sos1/basics/index.php . They explain the dating/marriage system and each candidate's likes/dislikes. Also check out the forums for tips: http://fogu.com/hmforum/viewforum.php?f=30

Have fun!

I just have a quick question. For a newcomer to this type of Harvest Moon (have Lost Valley & love it), is it better to start in seedling mode or the regular mode?
I plan also to get A Tale of two Towns and A New Beginning this week too.

Want: Harvest Moon: One World, Story of Seasons: Pioneering Town, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury

Finished the Alola Dex.
Now playing New Horizons, Wrath of White Witch and Sword

Ryu_Niiyama

@Pokefanmum82: Seedling mode just lowers requirements and costs (I think it lowers stamina requirements slightly as well). I'm a veteran player but I'm playing in seedling mode because I don't have the free time to devote to the game. (got it day one and I'm only in the second year fall) So if you want a easier time for cost requirements then go with seedling mode. I still run out of stamina...because my farm is too big so just cook and you will be fine.

Thanks for the info. I'm not sure if I can ask this question here but I will anyways. I am planning on buying the two Harvest Moons that came out for the 3DS previously to Lost Valley at the same time I buy Story of Seasons. Which one is better to start with (for a newcomer to this style) out of Story of Seasons, A New Beginning or A Tale of Two Towns?

Want: Harvest Moon: One World, Story of Seasons: Pioneering Town, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury

Finished the Alola Dex.

Eel

I personally found Tale of Two Towns to be superior to A New Beginning.

ANB bored me really quickly (couldn't get past the first year), though ToTT is actually a bit less newbie friendly.

So Story of Seasons would be the best choice to start with then?

I haven't really played it.

It kinda looks a little bit too much like ANB, but the consensus seems to be it's better than it.
