I find a save feature is pretty unnecessary for this game, even on N64 mode. The game takes one hour at the very most (unless you're randomly flying around fighting Star Wolf for 3 hours or something).
It's only an hour because it's meant to be replayed, I guess. There are a total of 16 stages (you need to replay the game multiple times to see them all), 25 potential different story routes, and two different endings. There's also a bunch of medals to collect for reaching a certain hit count per stage.
As for difficulty, there's only two settings: 3DS and N64. 3DS mode is easier, as it is meant to balance gameplay for gyroscope users, and and N64 mode is harder. I don't know what your gaming abilities are like, but I don't think you'll get much challenge out of 3DS mode, even on the hardest route. Go for 64.
And I suspect that this game isn't even that challenging...
You'd be surprised how tough it can be, especially trying to get medals and the like.
As for people saying about the game having a save feature, it's something I'm actually grateful for - if I want to play a quick couple of levels on my lunchbreak at work, I don't have the worry of my 3DS running out of battery if I put it in Sleep Mode if I'm just able to save. On top of which, some of us just don't have the time to sit down with a game for a couple of hours any more!
@ Waveboy In order to see every stage in the game it takes more than one playthrough. There is an expert difficulty which is unlocked by earning all 15 medals in the game. They are earned based on the total of enemies killed. Also depending on which stage path you take the game can be much harder. The submarine level is a good challenge. It's the blue planet called aquas I believe.

I can't believe how many people seem to play the game without progressing to a more difficult route, and then claim they have 'finished it'.
Part of the fun is replaying it through the many routes that available. I'm taking my time to try to explore the different routes to fully appreciate just how good this game is. Aquas and Area 6 are real challenges - spent ages on the Area 6 boss without Slippy to analyse for me - had to give up in the end and take the easier route.
On a different note - first time I played Titania the game crashed requiring a hard reset of the 3DS - anybody else had this?
Andross: peppy never told you what happen to your father fox: he told me Enough he told me you killed him andross: no fox i am your father fox: noooooooooooooooooooo
I am a newcomer to the series so I had to get this game(I also got starfox on a snes emulator). I was done with the main game in less then 2 hours, but I don't care about that since you can still take alternate routes so you have to play through the main game about 3 times. And if you're done with that, you can always go back and play any level you want in score attack or play against CPU or friends in battle mode so it will never get old I realy like the graphics and the voices. I'm glad they didn't call it lytal wars 3d

Retro games, Modern games, all AWESOME!!!
I was playing the game late last night because I could't wait till morning. I shouldn't have. I was waaay too tired to enjoy it. The lava planet totally blew me away though. I hope it was because I was tired, but the 3D was weak. Controls are cool though, percise. 3DS mode is too easy. I should have started with N64 mode. I hate how up is up and down is down by default, lol. I'm too use to the SNES version's controls.
Awesome! The 3D is decent, but really shines in the land vehicle levels. The gyro controls are a bit too slow to actually work, imo. Falco's voice~. Graphics are pleasing, and getting the medals is pretty hard. Great game.
Does the game look better than Ocarina of Time 3D? If Nintendo could completely overhaul StarFox 64's graphics, then why didn't they do the same with Ocarina of Time 3D?

Star Fox is a lot smaller of a game than Zelda. Also, its mostly on rails so it could be expected that the graphical upgrade is a bit more drastic in Starfox than Ocarina. I think they did a fantastic job on both though.

Oh I agree that Nintendo did a great job with Ocarina of Time 3D, but I guess I was expecting a more substantial upgrade after seeing RE Revelations.
