I can't complete any of the challenges after the special move challenges that require you to link moves together. I can get it to recognize the first move in the combo, but anything else never registers. I know I'm doing the other moves right, and I'm doing the next one very quickly afterwards, but I can never get it to recognize my combos. I could probably pass some of them by setting up macros on the touchscreen, but that would be incredibly boring and tedious. What do I do?

Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

I just tried Challenge Mode for the first time tonight. Spent some time with it. I feel as though this game is too difficult for me, and I've played and enjoyed what people consider some of the hardest games out there.
Anyways, what I can tell you is that the timing is extremely demanding. When you see the guy block your move, that means your timing was off. A successful combo is literally unblockable after the first hit, so the fact that he blocks it means you didn't pull it off right, even if it looks right. Keep trying and try to get the timing perfect. The later combos get a lot trickier.

Stop complaining and GO PLAY GAMES.

It is really tough. The window at which a combo occurs must be unbelievably small. The most annoying ones might be where Ultra moves are used; if you mess up [which is 99% of the time], you still have to watch the whole cutscene while you wait for the attack to end.

In all the challenges I've played, I've stopped at about level 10. Beyond that lies nothing but frustration [and for what? some silly achievement? no thanks!].

Well, if you want to actually use those combos, you have to learn them somehow... I honestly think the dev team messed up a little when tuning this game. Although I'm sure some people out there love it this way.

If you are not an expert on the genre but want to unlock the most icons and titles like me you have 2 options: to practice years until you get the combos, or just configure and use the touchscreen (and even with those the focus cancels are still very hard to chain) I have not the time, patience and skill to do it without touchscreen, I excel at racing, not fighting.

Trust me guys, I have Street Fighter on the Xbox 360 and it's just as hard. It's a matter of being precise and extremely quick. For example in Ryu's 11th Challenge which is:
Jump H Punch
Stand H Kick
Shinku Hadoken (Super Combo)

You should be quick enough that the Super Combo happens before the 'second hit' from the Stand H Kick which hits twice if you are close enough. It's very much possible just keep trying. If it's too tricky or you just don't believe me that it's possible then use the Touch Screen. And tap Super Combo right after the 'first hit' in the Stand H Kick (remember you don't have to exit the Challenage to change around the touchscreen configuration )

If you miss with the Ultra Combo, just press Start and go to Restart, after a few times you get really quick at restarting the mission lol

The easiest fighter I found to complete, 100%, is T. Hawk. Nevertheless, the challenge mode is hard, as there are plenty of frustrating combos. For instance, That 5 - 6 hit jab combo for Zangief seems easy, but is ridiculously frustrating; not only does your timing need to be perfect, but your distance to your opponent must also be perfect.

The can is open, but the worms are surrounded by fish hooks. Current faves: Batman: Arkham City, Ico/Shadow of the Colossus Collection

They did mess up a bit, imo... the window is far too small.

Anyway, I've stopped caring about this silly mode and am now just enjoying the rest of the game.
Thank goodness it isn't mandatory!

most characters, i am able to pull half to 3/4 of the challenges. but forget about the late ones, after 20. these are beasts to pull off.
timing is a bit crazy but possible. The only combos i cant pull out are mostly when you must chain moves like hadoken and ultra move. those sequences are crazy to pull off. the ultra move alone is hard enough...
that ryu (or ken?) 4 low punches in row is... is it even possible?
im able to chain 2 punches, but third ones don't even touch the opponent. how can you chain 4 punches on a static blocking opponent. it would be possible is a second human played would keep walking forward you to prevent backing off.
any tips on this would be appreciated!

Call me a noob, but if you switch it to lite controls its much easier. When I can actually beat it with lite controls I am so going back and redoing it with pro.

I'd say I'm a hardcore Street Fighter 4 veteran, I have it for PC and 360. Seriously even I find it hard to do an Ultra on the 3DS controls. pressing L/R in time with ABXY buttons seems impossible for some reason. On the 360 controller you have 2 extra buttons, for "all kick" and "all punch" you can change a button to these on 3DS, but then you miss out another button. Just use the touchscreen for Ultras. Makes life much easier, I'm sure most veteran players would agree.

It doesn't really tell you, but maybe combos like this, walk them over into the corner. keep walking towards them for a good 3 seconds to ensure you are as close as possible, and just spam the heck out of the combo lol it's possible trust me

I only need 2 more challenges to finish with Vega... So hard

Man I gave up on this already. I got stuck on #10 with Chun-li. I can't time the spinning bird kick right. It's not much easier with other players either as you keep on going. I think I only unlocked 1 or 2 Icons or titles doing this. It's fun for a while, but you get sick of it I guess.

I tried this mode again and beat some of them, but I got stuck on that same one for Chun-Li, but I was able to also beat #22. I'm never going to be able to use these ridiculous combos in a match, though.

the thing is....once i got to play more of the game, i came back at the challenge mode and been able to do a couple of them that i was not able to do before. Practice is a key.
and OCD can help too.
Seriously, some are crazy to do without the lite mode. and even with the lite mode on, i cant pass a lot of them.
Im generally a completist, but here i will probably pass my turn.
so you think you can walk forward while punching ? because it says Stand Lpunch. so punches are different when you press forward or stay still.
i will try it anyway, maybe it will work.

i like this game

I know this is off topic but how do you play against friends online? Is it possible?

I disagree. Okay, I admit that I haven't played the game on any other console, but the 3DS controls just... well, they suck for this game. It's mainly because of the circle pad/d-pad. The circle pad is not nearly as accurate as a real thumbstick, and when I play it leads to lots of jumping when not wanting to, not jumping or not jumping the right way when I want to, not being able to crouch-block when I need to, and generally fudging up even basic special moves. I've played other fighters and games that people tend to moan about needing a d-pad to play with on consoles using the thumbstick and never had a problem with it, even preferring a thumbstick a lot of the time because it was more comfortable to use. The circle pad just isn't as good as a real stick. The d-pad on the 3DS is very small and uncomfortable to use. You'd really have to mash that thing really hard with your thumb to do the sort of moves this game requires. On top of that the R and L buttons are small and sometimes hard to mash with perfect timing the way this game requires. Some people can play; I've met some fighters online that were very competent with this game on 3DS. I like this game, but I would be a lot happier with it if half the challenge wasn't in trying to finesse the directional input into what you intend it to be.

Stop complaining and GO PLAY GAMES.

The difficulty with challenges is not with the controls, but with the incredibly strict timing involved and tricks to certain moves. The thing is, you may SEE what you need to do, but you may not know exactly how to accomplish it, especially at later levels. The only way to accomplish challenges is by practicing.

Take Blanka (my main character) for example and his final trial which is...
Jumping HK, Standing MP, Crouch MK, Standing LP, H Rolling Attack (Charge Back, Forward HP)

video link here:
Blanka Trial 24

In order to execute the above trial and succeed, you need to...
Jump forward, hold up-back, HK, moment before you land hit MP while still holding up-back, roll to down-back and hit MK moment MP connects, roll to back and hit LP and the moment LP lands hit forward and HP...and all within about 2 seconds.

...and yes, I did that on the 3DS too.

The timing is incredibly strict and it took me a ton of tries too, but its not impossible, practice makes perfect, everything else is just excuses. The 3DS control setup work fine, ultimately its the person doing the inputs that isn't doing it correctly. Besides, if challenges could be done by just anyone without practicing, they wouldn't really be challenging would they? If you are frustrated, go back to it when you're more comfortable with your character, you can learn some advanced techniques from challenges, but they're largely impractical in combat and ultimately not necessary.

What is the meaning of life? That's so easy, the answer is TETRIS.

Oh no, sorry that didn't come across right. It's hard to explain, but once you get them into the corner, keep walking them into the corner for a few second to ensure you are as close as possible
