I didn't really care for it. I will probably skip this game.

The demo looked pretty good to me, almost awesome to be fair, but then again my mindset could have played heavily on how much the demo surprised me...

Tried another demo at an event not long ago and it felt worse, plus Sonic Lost World on 3DS was quite bad too... this demo live up quite well against those premises I had. Indeed without games like smash and Pokemon coming up I would have got this game day one.

The 3 games modes in the demo are fun, not mind-breaking or revoulutionary, but definitly fun and despite everyone keep reminding that is a spin-off, I felt the game be very Sonic-like. The only worry I have is about how much this game can keep be this good in the full version. The other demo I played felt worse cause of level design and all those buttons and abilities the characters have mostly add little and I can already see them ruining the gameplay if the developpers forced them too much in later levels.

It will be definitly interesting to read some reviews and get some reactions about the full game later this month.

The first problem I have is why this game has to use the circle pad only for movement? Isn't the D-pad ideal for platform games since the controls for 2d games have to be either smooth or precise?

Then that explore level took so long to complete. Sure there's lots of goodies that can compensate that length but I'm talking like Fire Emblem chapter long here! It took me about 17 min to complete that level!

Now I'm guessing that the characters won't be available at first so then it would be easy to do......but they feel like Lost world 3DS long or Sonic Heroes long! I'm dead serious here. Metroid has save points at convenient spots so the length there isn't a problem but since this is a platform game, you expect to have good controls here and that coming from someone who's used to bad controls!

I don't know If this game will do well.....but if it does do well and if the reviews are good, then I'm most likely gonna get the game. After all, a demo can't sum up what the game will be in the end right?

After so long...I'm back. Don't ask why

It is 30fps - It is obvious straight away by playing it certain bits are annoying just for that reason. I won't be getting it.

The Wii U one also is as far as I know so forget that,

“30fps Is Not a Good Artistic Decision, It's a Failure”

I have this preordered for my son and I think I might be playing it too. I liked it. I'm so glad I don't have the same kind of hangups some of you seem to have. I am enjoying it for what it is, a new take on Sonic.

@Artwark Yeah.. although I loved the music, that 'explore' level took so long to complete.

God first.

Yeah expanding on my points, I think that the adventure stages were the weakest in my opinion while not terrible it feels a bit straightforward, (based on enemy variety and setpieces). Hopefully this can be expanded upon the full game. The rival races and the tunnel sections is pretty fun especially when you're going for the medals which is basically the major challenge of this game. Though I swear no matter how well I do Sticks is always behind me at that rival race.

Oh and the Sea fox minigame was pretty awesome. More of that please and thank you. :3

I will try this one, although I am more interested in the Wii U version.

I never have preconceived expectations for any Sonic game, so maybe I will enjoy it.

I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

It fails at being a spinoff though. A good spinoff gives us a fresh take on the original but retains the series' identity. In this case, that identity is speed. And this version doesn't really give us a fresh take on Sonic's speed, it gives us a watered down version of Sonic's speed. They're just taking random gameplay styles, slapping a Sonic aesthetic on it, and executing it terribly. Even if you ignore the speed, the exploration is watered down too and the map is nearly useless because it's so vague and doesn't load past a certain distance. It all adds up to a generic platformer with random different elements that are all executed poorly. It's a bad game from every angle.

So most of the Mario, Mega Man, and Pokemon spin-offs are terrible because they don't keep the identity of that series? Okay.

Absolutely awful. Regardless of the fact that it doesn't play like a traditional Sonic game, it fails at being a traditional platformer. I quit the demo during my first play through, because after 10 MINUTES of the same repetitive level, I couldn't do it anymore. At times I genuinely thought I was going round in circles until I realised the level design really is THAT bland. The speed at which Sonic moves is not only slow in comparison to older Sonic games, it's slow in comparison to most platformers in general, and the jumping mechanic is really sluggish. Terrible game.

After the demo its on my "If I have nothing else I can give it a shot" pile, which is unfortunate for it considering how much stuff is coming out right now. Also is it just me or was the music very forgettable?

My minds not made up. I liked Sonic lost world on 3DS and beat it 3 times. It will depend on how the levels vary. Hopefully they aren't all overly similar with a palette swap to indicate a new area.

I think the reason the first level is so long is for kids who may have never played this game to get a feel for these controls. Or for those people like me who have rarely played a Sonic game and need some guidance to get through the level. This doesn't mean the game itself will be like this. This demo kind of reminds of the Wonderful 101 demo. People hated it but for those who bought the game anyways ended up saying that the demo wasn't how the game was. Just my opinion mind you!

It should be law that a Sonic level should not be allowed to go on any further than 5 minutes.

That old ten minute timer actually killed me in some levels of Sonic 3 & Knuckles, so those were pretty long. In addition, Wikipedia says that Yuji Naka “aimed to create levels that would take the player at least five minutes to complete” in Sonic Adventure. I think that worked out pretty well, though I don't remember many levels actually taking that long. Also, I disagree.

I haven't tried this demo and I don't feel like doing so, so I have nothing else to say on the demo.

Defense time. Heh, I don't mind long levels as long as the minor-collectestivest in me explores at my own pace the thing is you can choose to go fast or just take it slow and explore the place (hopefully they'll allow that option and not be as restrictive). Long levels like Shadow and maybaly sonic Heroes gets flack because of it's long levels and you have no choice to complete them or complete the appointed task through confusing level design to end the stage. This fells more free as I completed the adventure level in about 5 mins from a 2nd or third playthrough.

I really liked the demo though my big issue with it is the really small demo usage limit. 8 isn't enough for a game that's coming out in 2 weeks.

They do, they apply the core identity of their respective series to their spinoffs. Mario spinoffs still feel like Mario because of the powerups. Pokemon spinoffs still feel like Pokemon because you're still battling. But Sonic Boom doesn't feel like a Sonic spinoff because the speed is overshadowed by Metroidvania.

Except the demo part of the first level ends after a few minutes. There's waaaaaaaaaaaaay more to the level than just being a demo, and it's too much.

I'm getting annoyed with the fact that there's even a demo limit in the first place for every 3DS demo (except for some rare exceptions). Why is that even necessary? It's not as if you're playing the entire game for free.
