Ask on the 3ds recommendation thread. Dragon Quest VII, Etrain Odyssey IV (demo on eShop) and YoKai Watch (demos for 1 & 2 on eShop). I'm not sure that last 1 is a rpg but it's fun.

Tales of the Abyss & Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance are good picks as well.

Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

A lot of great RPGs have been mentioned so far. If you enjoy longer ones, both Bravely Default and Bravely Second may be up your alley.

I've never played any of the Shin Megami Tensei games, but those are evidently worth playing as well. If you're into buying retail games digitally, Atlas also runs eshop sales on these and their other titles on occasion.

And, while this doesn't come out until early next year, Dragon Quest VIII is also worth mentioning.

Currently playing: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey

We had some Atlus games receive a permanent price cut, but otherwise Europe doesn't generally receive Atlus discounts. The only two that do seem to get temporary discounts are Shin Megami Tensei IV and Conception II, don't think I've seen any others.

I'm belligerent, you were warned.

Personally, I'd say Etrian Odyssey IV and wait for Dragon Quest VIII.

Fire Emblem Awakening is fantastic. If you don't want to get too caught up in the strategy, just play it on the easiest and most forgiving settings. That way, you don't have to keep resetting and it doesn't get into your head as much.

I would look into some of the DS's RPGs as well. The 3DS had some good options, but the DS really had a ton of great options.

Radiant Historia
Chrono Trigger
Golden Sun: Dark Dawn
Pokemon titles (especially Heart Gold/ Soul Silver)
Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced 2

Xenoblade is essential if you have the New 3DS

Mario and Luigi (Dream Team and Paper Jam) is a really good RPG. Xenoblade is also really fun. Pokemon (Black/White, Diamond/Pearl/Platinum, HeartGold/SoulSilver, Black 2/White 2, and X/Y) is always enjoyable, and I love Yokai Watch 1/2. Fire Emblem is also amazing, though I don't know if it's a RPG.

So you've got a lot of options, and that's not even going into the other games on the 3DS.
