@Heavyarms55
I saw a few upcoming 3DS games during presentation (Captain Toad, Dushi Strikers), but it was too fast so i couldn't watch very clear.

Upcoming 3DS games for Second Half 2018 are just Captain Toad, Luigi Mansion remake and some non listed games here due to Japanese Exclusive 3DS games.

Btw, this year i have plan to increase my 3DS games library by adding the Japanese version (and PAL version due to Dillon Dead Heat Breakers & Style Savvy Styling Star were Not released in Physical for USA version so i have to buy their games in PAL version + PAL version 3DS later).
And i got a lot of Japanese Exclusive titles to be considered from playasia (for the full list) & Youtube (for the Actual gameplays)

Both were presented as upcoming Switch games. The clip you're talking about was posted on the official Nintendo Youtube channel under the title "Nintendo Switch - E3 2018 Software Lineup". I think it's pretty clear that Nintendo are going to start focusing entirely on Switch going forward. The Switch, more than anything, is about Nintendo trying to avoid spreading themselves thin over two platforms.

Given this is what everyone was begging for a year and a half ago?

I thought the complete absence of the 3DS was a bit surprising, considering Nintendo's insistence that it isn't dead or dying any time soon. I didn't think we would see any amazing new games, but I thought we would at least get release dates for some of the stuff already announced, like the Luigi's Mansion remake. Even if they weren't in the direct, I thought they would at least be shown in a Treehouse Segment. But no, it was always "When we come back, more Super Smash Bros Ultimate..." Never thought I would be tired of Smash, but watching it shown off repeatedly was really getting old... Still looking forward to playing it, but geez...

There will be more games announced on 3DS, it just wasn't the right time for Nintendo to do so.

Remember everyone criticised its presence at E3 last year, so it's rather logical to keep 3DS anouncements for a more focused audience.

Is there even coming anything else than Cpt Toad, M&L BiS remake, WarioWare and Luigi's Mansion remake.

@Eagle9 : Third party support for the 3DS is almost extinct at this point. Even RCMDIAX is no longer gracing the 3DS with his priceless gems.

Except for Japanese 3DS games.
I still saw a little support Japanese Only 3DS games during this year.
I have checked from playasia and i'm planning to buy Japanese 3DS in November 2018. Pretty too late but better than never.

I think they decided to leave stuff like 3DS for a Direct, 3DS being the Treehouse announcements last year didn't go down too well.

I don't think they're doing this to avoid some kind of criticism about focusing too much on 3DS. If anything it's the other way around. Last year they had some continue focus on the 3DS to try and keep 3DS software sales going for a bit longer. This year they didn't have to. Neither decision was about trying to keep fans happy or to reduce critisism, it's just a pure numbers game.

Think of it this way. Last year Nintendo had the Switch moving about 2x more software than the 3DS. Not too dissimilar to the gap between the Wii U and 3DS or the GBA and GC at their respective peaks. But over the next year they're projecting that to jump to 6x. Which is closer to the gap in sales between the Wii U and Switch in 2017. Or really the sort of gap any new system sees when it's successor launches.

To put it simply, the bean counters at Nintendo saw E3 2017 for the Wii U the same as they view E3 2018 for the 3DS. At some point the audience becomes small enough relative to the other things they're doing that they stop creating new content and stop promoting it.

You mean the Switch is in fact not a third pillar? Shocking!

Yeah, I expected to at least get a release date for Luigi's Mansion

Even though Nintendo says they will continue to support the system, I doubt it will survive beyond 2018.

These two sentences are concise, to the point, and represent how I feel about this. I wasn't expecting the 3DS to be fully featured or anything since the Switch is obviously (and rightfully) Nintendo's main cash cow at this point, but I was at least expecting a tiny segment in either the Digital Direct or during the live Treehouse presentations.

At this point, I think anything that we do learn will be saved for a Direct later in the year. I'm very interested in the Luigi's Mansion remake since I didn't get to play it on GCN. According to a story I recall reading awhile back, Nintendo still has a few 3DS games in the pipe (though that may have been propaganda). I'd still like to see a couple of titles ported from Japan as well, but I'm losing hope in that department.

@Knuckles-Fajita oh I think retiring the system is the right move. I just wanted to know other people's thoughts.

I was really surprised a new 3ds zelda wasn't announced considering the rumours. Nintendo have said there gonna focus the 3ds on younger gamers for the rest of its lifecycle which I'm indifferent to tbh. It's one of the best systems I've ever owned tbh with the zelda titles, smash and pokemon...personally I'd love a real exclusive zelda built for the system..not a .5 remake like link between worlds...

Heavyarms55

@BongoBongo123 I would be absolutely shocked if we got a new totally original Zelda on 3DS at this point. I don't expect any more major first party titles on the system. Just ports, remakes, and a few bigger 3rd party titles.

Well the Nintendo President has said that they are looking at a successor for the 3DS.....I hope they keep the handheld line going....yes I know technically the Switch is both but I prefer gaming on my 2DS XL to the Switch

Want: Harvest Moon: One World, Story of Seasons: Pioneering Town, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury

Finished the Alola Dex.
Now playing New Horizons, Wrath of White Witch and Sword

Heavyarms55

@ReaderRagfish It would largely depend on what that 3DS successor was. Personally I do feel that releasing one would in most cases, be a mistake. As Nintendo would have two products with widely overlapping consumers. Nintendo would be marketing 2 different handhelds to their audience and that is hard sell. Likely one of the two would fail and it would hurt Nintendo overall.

Personally though, if the 3DS successor was a kind of "ultimate legacy" I would be more interested. Imagine a handleheld designed to inherit your entire portable retro Nintendo collection. A dual screen device that supports Game Boy through 3DS cartridges and can rip the roms from your GB and GBA games and save them to your system directly - much like recent clone systems have been doing with NES and SNES. Then with a modern screen and touch screen that support everything from GB's tiny resolution up through 720p, such a device would have wide spread appeal and Nintendo could market it in the line of the "classic" systems they have been doing. They could even sell retro collections of Game Boy and GBA titles the sizes of the collections on the NES/SNES mini systems. This would not need new content, but instead be designed as the penultimate successor to the Game Boy and DS families and designed to inherit long time fan's collections. It would also not compete too directly with the Switch. They could focus the Switch as their platform for new content, ports and remakes, while legacy content could be on this new device.

He didn't. He was asked specifically about a successor to the 3DS and answered with words to the effect of "we are considering various possibilities". It's a PR non-answer that has been blown up into excited headlines with no content. Frankly it makes little sense for Nintendo to release another pillar. Equally it makes little sense for them to go out of their way to say the 3DS is obsolete when there's still somewhat of an audience for it.
