They will do fine. I am only getting Pokémon. I can't afford both since when I buy Pokémon main games I usually have to buy two or more of them, since my kids play it too.
Want: Harvest Moon: One World, Story of Seasons: Pioneering Town, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
Finished the Alola Dex.
Now playing New Horizons, Wrath of White Witch and Sword
I think they'll sell fine, but the play time on them will be divided.. for example players will probably play through oras halfway through, go on smash, come back to oras in a couple of days, then forget about it after post game and just play smash.

Yeah, different consoles, not everyone loves Smash, not everyone loves Pokemon, not to mention not everyone loves remakes. So both games will do perfectly fine, honestly I think Alpha and Omega will have the advantage...but then again the other game IS Smash, so I dunno. xD
I think Smash is going to have to wait for me, don't have much money since I had to spend to replace something on my computer.

Keep it PG-13-ish.
Nintendo is over 125 years old, I'm pretty sure they know what they're doing.
The fact that they're over 125 years old is completely irrelevant, as this entire video game industry is still relatively new, and Nintendo chose the video game route as soon as it became a thing.
That said, Nintendo still absolutely knows what they're doing, and probably knows more about the effect of video game release dates a lot more than we do.

It's not irrelevant, they have 125 more than 125 years of experience with releasing their products, whether they are cards, toys or video games, it's all the same when it comes to choosing the right time to release it.
