Hmm, I upgraded back in April, and I haven't had any of these problems, except for brightness occasionally. Sound has always been fine for me,

I agree, I think you unfortunately got a defective model. The XL, however, does have much lower volume than the original 3DS. If you just the system you should be able to exchange it without using the warranty.

Glad i looked at the responses because I thought of upgrading to the XL..now not anymore...added you on my friends list

I'm perfectly happy with my XL, I never had the original but the bigger screen is a must have in my book. The volume issue doesn't really bother me, it sounds perfect in my opinion, touch screen is responsive and I haven't had any issues with it. Also it's sturdy as a rock I haven't had any issues with panels coming off. Of course I baby mine lol, I take great care of it and I'm probably overly gentle with it. I've only dropped it once so it has a few scratches and there's what looks to be a tiny tiny little crack on the screen, i've thought about using my warranty to get a new one due to the little spot on the screen but I hardly ever notice it and I don't want to waste my warranty due to something so trivial. Buy all in all I absolutely love it, it's been my favorite gaming platform since I got it, even though the only other console I have is the 360 lol.

But no problems with mine except I did replace the 4 gig SD card for a 16 gig because I download a lot of my games, so if I did have any complaints about it the small SD card would be the only one! of course I could just be an XL fanboy though haha :3

I forget if it's still relevant, but changing sound settings from surround to stereo (or something like that) might help.

No problems like that with my 3DS XL and I bought it back in September. The only problem would be the screen scratching still happens, in the exact same place it was on the original 3DS, come on Nintendo, fix that annoying problem once and for all! D:

Oh yes, and my back plate can come off slightly, but only on the corners. I contacted Nintendo regarding that and they said it was normal, it just allows access to the battery compartment and/or swapping back plates.

If you found a XL on "sale" (as in less than $199.99) at a Game Stop then it is in fact a used XL

In fact, I don't like people telling me what I did or did not do.
It was a new machine, it did not have any pre-owned tag or anything like that, and they sold it to me as new. There was a batch of XL:s on sale, they had red, blue, silver and Pikachu (which was gone already).
If, in fact, it was used, then my GameStop diddled me.

P.S. I got it for 170€ and that is still about 20 dollars more than $199.99, LOL.

Thanks for the conversation you've kept going.
Ah, I'd like to love the XL (been using it for a week now) and I do like it in many ways. The main draw is the larger screen, although the older wasn't bad either.
I'm gonna take it to the store today (been waiting so that I can do the System Transfer again, to the older system) so I hope another one will be better.
I've adapted to the more rigid touch screen pretty well. The low vol isn't so bothersome because I tend to play with my headphones, or at home. (Curiously, the VC/DS games have higher volume...) The back panel doesn't come off on it's own which is a sign that it's really not an issue. The A button is a bit of a nuisance.
The main gripe is the dimmer screens. Come on, highest level seems like level 3 on the older one? Not good enough. If that's the inevitable drawback of having a bigger screen, then it's not for me.

I really don't see that as much of an issue and to be honest I haven't even noticed. On mine it looks far brighter than the original 3DS, but I did keep it on level 1 or 2 brightness just to keep the battery going for longer since battery life on that thing is horrific. But the 3DSXL does seem to look brighter at level 5 brightness, to me anyway.

I also find the 3DSXL model to feel a lot sturdier and better designed than the original. Not to mention the matte finish just feels so much nicer in the hands compared to the glossy finish on the original which is horrible for scratches and dirt.

But I guess there will be lovers of the original and lovers of the XL. But after you go XL, you'll never go back. (inb4 "That's what she said...")

It doesn't matter if you've lost the back sticker as there is another inside the battery compartment

Okay cool. Then I will take it into EB Games and see if I can use the warranty still. Now my 3DS XL is having a problem with the battery. It won't stay on for more than two minutes and keeps resetting my clock & date. What does that mean? Has anyone had this problem? Can it just be fixed by reseating the battery? Or will I have to send it in?

@mumof3kids82 Maybe the battery isn't connected properly? I'd probably put it on charge for a half hour and see if it works after that, if not I'd send it in for a repair. Never heard of that problem before.

After I reseated the battery it is working again. It was really weird.
