As far as I know, the figures are exempt from region-locking.

You really don't miss the jumping in the console versions though, I didn't even think about not being able to jump until someone mentioned it here.
That's true. The 3DS version is a platformer, whereas the console versions are action-adventure-RPG-based, kinda like a dungeon crawler such as D&D or Gauntlet, the latter of which omits jumping as well.
It took me a little bit to wrap my head around the "dungeon crawler" that was the console version, but it actually makes for a good, puzzling challenge.
I currently have 75/125 crystals on the 3DS version (been collecting everything in a level before moving on, but had to take a break due to a visitor). Hoping I can complete this one soon; it really reminds me of an old-school platformer and I'm having a great time with it. It was a pleasant surprise!
They Have a 3D video on eshop and on Nintendo Video to watch. its supposed to show why the skylanders went away. The skylanders also talk. Its a good showing of 3D.
WAT!

I think that's a good way to look at it, Pogo, although the 3DS one does play a lot like a platformer you would find on the PSOne or the N64. Definitely a lot more so than the console one which is essentially a dungeon-crawler game.
I have the Wii version and it is amazing. It is one of my favorite Wii games and have been playing it all day with my friend. There is co-op, which is great, and the battle mode is extremely fun, especially since there are 3 modes. (the football one is the best) I recommend this game to anyone in their right mind lol. Also, the jumping this is not noticeable in the crazy fun. Don't know about the 3DS version, though.

so i can't decide on which one to get, the wii verson or the 3ds version. I want the 3ds one for the figures but i want the wii one for more of a multiplayer experience. And can the 3ds "portal of power" work with the wii

Would you prefer to play something reminiscent of a mid-to-late 90's platformer game, or do you want to play a Gauntlet-style dungeon crawler game? If you've got a friend or sibling who will play the latter with you, I would say go for it, but if you want some platforming action, then the 3DS one is the way to go. Why not go watch videos of both on YouTube and see which grabs your fancy the most?
None of the portals are compatible with other platforms; only the figures.
does anyone know if you can buy the figures from the 3ds (like dark spyro, and stealth elf) separately from the game

Has anyone tried the map packs? I saw it at Sears with the Shark and Pirate Ship, and I saw some other in Toys R Us Big book.
I dont have the game but I'm getting real interested in it because them figures will go well with all my collectibles I have (Mario figures, Pokemon promotionals, some Pokedolls, etc)
They would fit in so well lol Has anyone tried cross platform? Cause I know you're able to do that but has anyone actually tried it here. And how does the pedestal work in connection to the system?
I have the Pirate Adventures map pack, but I still need to try it. I'm not sure how it works on the console versions, but on the 3DS one, there are spaces on the hub world for the four map packs.
I have played cross-platform though, with my PS3 and 3DS, and also using my figures on a friend's XBox360. The figure saves all of your information (levels, upgrades, hats, and money earned in the console versions), so they're intact when you play on another console, and then anything you do on that console will be saved when you play elsewhere.
For the 3DS version, the Portal of Power is wireless. You aim the 3DS' infra-red sensor at the one on the Portal of Power, and then it brings your toy into the game. The console version is wired on the 360, and wireless on the PS3; I cannot speak for the Wii but I believe it's also wired. The console portal has a cool effect that it glows the same colour as the "element" of the Skylander you're scanning. The 3DS portal is smaller since it only needs to accommodate one Skylander.
I have both the Pirate Seas and Darklight Crypt expansion packs. I've only played the Darklight Crypt so far. It was entertaining, but short: There were only 2 places to play versus the 5 in the other areas. I felt a little bit robbed by that. The additional items that come with the expansions are probably useful, but I haven't run into any situation where I've even thought about using them. Ghost Roaster, from the Darklight Crypt expansion, has a pretty cool move where he spins around endlessly and whacks stuff with his tail. It's a pretty neat but low damage attack.
edit: What are the hats for exactly? Just decoration?

The Wii version is wireless. Why would the 360 be wired? strange....
I guess either to save on batteries, or they couldn't figure out a wireless receiver for it. The cable on it is pretty long (about three metres) so shouldn't be an issue to most people. The save on batteries is nice, I guess.
can you erase the data on the figures and the game?
