The 3DS version is definitely more challenging; the first two worlds are quite easy-going, but after that, they're even proving difficult for my maxed-out Skylanders!
Finished writing the review (unfortunately it is a bit incomplete, since I couldn't get all types of characters :/ ) : very positive, but my main gripes with the game were the lack of story and the price of it. Really fun game nonetheless ^^

I didn't think the game was too challenging. It only started getting a little harder at the very last world for me. I had one maxed out character (Dark Spyro) and a lvl5-6 character when I first entered that world and I did fine.
Oh, has anyone tried playing online at the Spyro Skylander's website? I've started yesterday. It's the first time I've played a "social" game (where everyone is running around in the area with their characters live). Never played WOW or other MMOs.
If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.
TeeJay : Same here, I breezed through the levels without dieing even once ! Hecktore is quite stressful and wwithout him the game would have been boring...
How odd - I had quite some times with the ice world. But maybe that's because I'm insisting on getting all crystals in all levels, which is why I'm finding it harder.

Ah, you're right. I'm trying to get every crystal too, but I've been avoiding the Ice World because the ice is just way too slippery.

I picked this game up at Toys R Us while I was in Orlando. They were having a buy 2 get 1 free deal on their games and accessories. In addition to OoT and Street Fighter for the 3DS, I picked up this Skylanders stuff: 3DS Starter Pack (game, Stealth Elf, Dark Spyro, and Ignitor) Flameslinger Chop Chop Drobot Pirate Seas booster pack (with Terrafin) Darklight Crypt booster pack (with Ghost Roaster) Legendary Spyro (Toys R Us exclusive) Legendary Chop Chop (Toys R Us exclusive) Legendary Bash (Toys R Us exclusive)
Also grabbed Whirlwind at Target (Target Exclusive)
I've heard that there is a Sams Club exclusive character that can also be found at Wal Mart so I'll have to check on that. Unfortunately, I haven't had much time to play, but I did manage to 100% complete the first level with all challenges finished. I'll be moving onto the second level today or tomorrow I hope. This game is pretty awesome. I've read many different reviews online about it and it seems that Activision has a pretty good combination of "awesome game" and "collectibility". Some of the people have said that they don't even play video games but they still had to buy this game and collect all the additional characters. While at my local Toys R Us today, I discovered that there are carrying cases available for the figurines. I like that there is such variety in the characters but I'll be darned if I'm going to tote all these things around with me. It kind of defeats the purpose of portability with the 3DS. I also find it odd that Best Buy and Gamestop didn't get exlusive characters. Maybe in time...
edit: I just signed up at the skylanders.com website and I lol'd when it asked me for my parents e-mail address. kekekeke
I never disliked Spyro's new looks (though I kind of hope they included a "Cute(original) Spyro" character in there and are just hiding it for now).
I will totally get this game when it's cheap. Though I don't think I liked that "I needed a Water-based character to complete some of the challenges" I read up there.

All of the challenges don't need to be completed in order to beat the game at least from what I've seen so far but if you're shooting for 100% completion, then you'll need at least one figure from each of the "elements": Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Magic, Tech, Life, and Undead. The starter pack comes with three different ones iirc, so you'd have to purchase 5 more through multipacks or singles which is potentially another $44+ investment.
Not sure its been posted but Toys R Us is having a buy two get one free deal. would be a cheap way to pick up alot of skylanders. (lots of neogaf dudes have done this)

I think that ended when they closed on Saturday. Their newest deals for Skylanders stuff at Toys R Us are: 1. Buy any game priced at $19.99 or higher, and get a free $7.99 Skylanders figure. 2. 40% OFF ANY Wii, 3DS, or DS game $49.99 or less when you buy Kirby's Return to Dream Land for Wii. ***This deal is listed on the 3DS and Wii version of Skylanders which is strange because this game costs $69.99 and this deal doesn't apply*** 3. For their reward zone members, if you spend $100 or more on Skylanders stuff between 10/16/11 and 12/24/11, you get a coupon for a free $7.99 figurine. 4. Many of the starter packs and expansion packs have free shipping. I think that's all of them for the moment.
